Las Gigantes de Carolina crowned BSNF Champions! - Nov 21, 2015

Las Gigantes de Carolina swept the Final series against Mayaguez 4-0 and became the Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino Champions. Last night Carolina posted an 88-79 win to complete the series. They led 20-19 midway through the first half and increased to 38-28 advantage. Mayaguez however reduced to 45-43, while Amanda Thompson (178-F-87, college: Mercer, agency: 2X Inc) and Carla Cortijo (172-G-87, college: Texas, agency: Gamble Sports Management) exchanged the baskets for 52-45. The latter later scored for 84-78 with less than two minutes to go and Mayaguez could not upset the favorites.
Carla Cortijo erupted with 37 points for the winners and was named MVP of the Finals. Marissa Kastanek (175-G-90, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Macklin & Lovett Associates) netted 14 and Jazmine Sepulveda (178-SG-85, college: S.Florida, agency: Merit Management Group) scored 11. Ana Barrientos (SG) and Oliver replied with 22 points in the losing effort.

Imports celebrate victory in All-Star Game - Oct 4, 2015

The Imports Selection celebrated victory at the traditional BNSF All-Star Game. The event was held at the Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu stadium. Marissa Kastanek (175-G-90, college: N.Carolina St., agency: Macklin & Lovett Associates) and Markel Walker (185-F-90, college: UCLA) came up with decisive baskets late in regulation to seal the victory for the Imports. Puerto Rico eked out a narrow 39:38 halftime lead. The seesaw action continued in the second half. Puerto Rico built a 76:71 lead midway through the fourth frame. But the Imports Selection went on a strong late rally to snatch the victory. Morgan Jones (188-G-92, college: Florida St.) finished with 16 points to be named the MVP. Marissa Kastanek added 11 points, while Markel Walker contributed 10 points for the winners. Sandra Garcia (190-C-90, college: Wake Forest) responded with 19 points for Puerto Rico. Ashley Prim (170-G-91, college: St.Joseph's, agency: 610 Sports Management) had 12 points in the defeat.

Teams selected for the BSNF All-Star Game - Sep 30, 2015

The BSNF All-Star Game teams were announced by the league in a press release. The game is this Saturday in Manati where the natives faces the imports.

Carla Cortijo (172-G-87, college: Texas, agency: Gamble Sports Management) leads the natives which also includes Pamela Rosado (Morovis), Jay Marquez (Isabela), Dayshalee Salaman (Manati), Yashira Delgado (Santurce), Ashley Prim (Mayaguez), Michelle Gonzalez (Santurce), Ali Gibson (Isabela), Jazmine Sepulveda (Carolina), Sandra Garcia (Manati), Mari Placido (Ponce), Paola Crespo (Ponce), Esmary Vargas (Morovis) and Angelica Bermudez (Manati). The head coach of this team is Jorge Otero of Carolina.

The imports have Demetria Frank (Ponce), Marissa Kastanek (Carolina), Morgan Jones (Morovis), Ieasia Walker (Isabela), Alexis Hornbucke (Manati), Angelina Williams (Santurce), Amanda Thompson (Mayaguez), Markel Walker (Ponce), Jennifer George (Morovis), Jacinta Monroe (Manati), A'Jha Edwards (santurce), Monique Oliver (Mayaguez), Becca Bruszewski (Carolina) and Nithania Jackson (Isabela). Their coach is Ivan Flores of Manati.

Some of the activities of the All-Star Game includes a future stars game and a skills competition between the selected players.

Last season the imports won 105-82 and the MVP of the game was Angelina Williams.
