    BSNF Round 2: Aguada defeats leader Montaneras - Sep 19, 2017


    There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in BSNF.

    The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Montaneras (1-1) in Morovis on Saturday night. Hosts were edged by Aguada (3-0) 77-74. The guests trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 33-19 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Aguada made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Kourtni Perry orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. The former international point guard Dayshalee Salaman (163-90, college: Lincoln Memorial) contributed with 21 points and 4 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) replied with 20 points and 5 assists for Montaneras. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Aguada are looking forward to face Gigantes (#5) in Carolina in the next round. Montaneras will play against Yauco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

American guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) scored 23 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Robin Murphy chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. American Shalonda Winton (180-91, college: Cleveland St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. Gigantes' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Yauco will play against Montaneras (#4) in Morovis in the next round. Gigantes will play on the road against Aguada to get more than just one victory in their record.

Tierra Henderson notched a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Even 25 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) by Adily Martucci did not help to save the game for Pollitas. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Yauco will meet Montaneras (#4) in the next round. Pollitas will play against Aguada and hope to win that game.

    In the last game of round 2 winless Isabela were smashed by Manati on the road 82-62.

    Carolina - Yauco 63-76

    The game in Carolina was also worth to mention about. Yauco (3-1) played at the court of Gigantes (0-2). Yauco defeated Gigantes 76-63. The game was mostly controlled by Yauco. Gigantes was better in second period 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-18 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game. American guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) scored 23 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import swingman Robin Murphy (185-88, college: S.Mississippi, agency: ProDep Management) chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Yauco forced 21 Pollitas turnovers and had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Tierra Henderson (178-87, college: UCLA) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the former international guard Krystal Luciano (165-96, college: Hofstra) supported her with 17 points and 7 assists. Atenienses led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Atenienses outrebounded Pollitas 57-39 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Pollitas' players. American Monique Reid (185-90, college: Louisville, agency: Gamble Sports Management) notched a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and Nigerian-American forward Atonye Nyingifa (180-90, college: UCLA) supported her with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Four Atenienses players scored in double figures. Even 18 points and 8 rebounds by Panamanian swingman Shayra Brown (175-92, college: Boston Coll.) did not help to save the game for Pollitas.
