Cowboys new Champions of the BSN - Aug 4, 2009
It was a hard fought contest but the Bayamon Cowboys mustered their offense at the right moment to come away with the 2009 BSN Championship as they defeated the Quebradillas Pirates 84-82. It was a come from behind win which made it even sweeter for the Cowboys who were playing for their home town crowd in an arena which was jam packed with close to 10,000 fans.

The 1st quarter started with a 7-0 offensive run by the Pirates, but the Cowboys managed to withstand this initial offensive flurry from the Pirates, still the Pirates managed to take this initial quarter 23-22. In the 2nd quarter the Pirates once again controlled the game and at the half were leading by 5 points 44-39. In the 2nd half the Pirates were able to take a commanding 10 point lead going into the final quarter, but the Cowboys responded with several 3 point bombs to chip away the lead and with just over 2 minutes left in the game Carmelo Lee tied the game at 80 points with a 3 point bomb. With just 36 seconds left in the game and with Bayamon leading by 1 point 83-82, Peter John Ramos turned over the ball and Bayamon was able to capitalize with two free throws to seal the win.

Bayamon had gone 13 years without winning the BSN Championship. This is the Cowboys 14th championship title. For Bayamon, Carmelo Lee scored 17 points followed by Olumide Oyedeji with 14 points and 15 rebounds. For Quebradillas, Peter John Ramos scored 24 points and captured 10 rebounds, Joel Jones scored 21 points.

Christian Dalmau (194-G-77, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Daytona Beach CC) of the Bayamon Cowboys was named the Series MVP.
