The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Atleticos (20-13) in Mayaguez on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by fifth ranked Indios (12-20) 95-68. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 95-68. Indios shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 63.2 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Indios made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for naturalized Nicaraguan Jared Ruiz (188-1992) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. point guard Neftali Alvarez (183-1999, college: Southern Miss) helped adding 15 points and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) with 11 points and 8 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mayaguez maintains fifth place with 12-20 record. San German lost fourth consecutive game. They still keep top position with 13 games lost. Mayaguez are looking forward to face higher ranked Carolina (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Important game to mention about took place in Manati. Sixth ranked Osos (14-18) saved a 1-point victory at home edging second-best Capitanes (16-13) 93-92 on Tuesday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Mali power forward Cheick Diallo (206-1996, college: Kansas) who led the winners and scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. Jameer Nelson Jr accounted for 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Derrick Walton Jr (185-1995, college: Michigan) came up with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 13 assists for Capitanes in the defeat. Capitanes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Manati have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 14-18 record. Arecibo at the other side keeps the second position with 13 games lost. Manati will play against league's second-placed Caguas on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
