After 3 rounds played we can already see who rules in the BSN and who belongs to weaker ones. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Cariduros defeated Vaqueros in Fajardo 98-91. Vaqueros trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 24-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 91-98 at the end of the game. Cariduros made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American Robert Glenn (203-88, college: IUPUI) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-94) helped adding 20 points. The best for the losing side was American center Greg Smith (208-91, college: Fresno St.) with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vaqueros will play next round against Atleticos trying to get back on the winning streak. Cariduros will try to continue on its current victory against Santeros in Coamo.

It was an exceptional evening for American Robert Glenn (203-88, college: IUPUI) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Gerardo Suero accounted for 24 points. American guard Melo Trimble (190-95, college: Maryland) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 assists for Piratas in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cariduros will play against Santeros (#5) in Coamo in the next round. Piratas will play on the road against Brujos (#6) in Guayama and hope to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Coamo between Piratas and Santeros. Piratas (4-1) got a very close victory on the road over Santeros (2-2). Piratas managed to escape with a 1-point win 83-82 on Thursday evening. The best player for the winners was Alejandro Carmona who scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Jonathan Rodriguez who recorded 21 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Piratas will meet Brujos (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Santeros will play against Cariduros and hope to secure a win.
Very important is a road loss of Cariduros (4-1) against Leones (2-1) on Tuesday night. Visiting Cariduros were defeated by Leones in Juana Diaz 130-117. It was a good game for Nick Minnerath who led his team to a victory with 44 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones' next round opponent will be Santeros (#5) in Coamo. Cariduros will play on the road against Santeros (#5) in Coamo and hope to win that game.
Capitanes (4-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed Atleticos (0-5) in Arecibo 107-82. It was a great evening for Victor Rudd who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Capitanes will face Indios (#7) in Mayaguez in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Atleticos will play at home against Brujos and hope to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: Guayama won against Mayaguez on the opponent's court 101-96. Quebradillas managed to outperform San German in a home game 82-70. Aguada managed to beat Bayamon on the road 76-67.



Mayaguez - Guayama 96-101

There was a minor upset in Mayaguez where Indios (1-2) were defeated by Brujos (1-2) 101-96 on Monday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Indios won fourth quarter 29-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Brujos looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward David Laury (206-90, college: Iona) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Jose-Glen Rodriguez (201-92) helped adding 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was American guard Will Martinez (196-92, college: Monroe Coll.) with 27 points and international Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Brujos will face Piratas (#3) in Quebradillas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Piratas (4-1) in Quebradillas. Hosts were defeated by Cariduros (4-1) 98-91. The guests were already 13 points ahead at halftime and as many as 15 after three quarters before a 33-25 last quarter charge of Piratas cut the lead to 98-91 at the end of the game. Cariduros made 30-of-34 charity shots (88.2 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Piratas were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American Robert Glenn (203-88, college: IUPUI) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Dominican guard Gerardo Suero (196-89, college: Albany) accounted for 24 points for the winning side. Four Cariduros players scored in double figures. American guard Melo Trimble (190-95, college: Maryland) came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 assists and the other American import forward Brian Conklin (201-89, college: St.Louis) added 20 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for Piratas in the defeat. Ponce - Fajardo 130-117

Very important is a road loss of Cariduros (4-1) against Leones (2-1) on Tuesday night. Visiting Cariduros were defeated by Leones in Juana Diaz 130-117. It looked good early as Cariduros took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Leones had a 35-28 second period charge getting the lead and Cariduros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 117-130. Leones made 19-of-21 charity shots (90.5 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists. It was a good game for American Nick Minnerath (207-88, college: Detroit Mercy) who led his team to a victory with 44 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Dominican Victor Liz (193-86) contributed with 18 points and 7 assists for the winners. American Robert Glenn (203-88, college: IUPUI) answered with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-94) added 25 points and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Cariduros. Four Leones and five Cariduros players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones' next round opponent will be Santeros (#5) in Coamo. Cariduros will play on the road against Santeros (#5) in Coamo and hope to win that game.

Capitanes (4-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed Atleticos (0-5) in Arecibo 107-82. Capitanes shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Victor Rudd (205-91, college: S.Florida) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 4 assists. Guard Christian Pizarro (180-95, college: Miami Dade CC) helped adding 9 points and 10 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Chane Behanan (198-92, college: Louisville) with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Andrew Feeley (205-83, college: UMBC) scored 10 points. Very predictable result in Quebradillas where Piratas (4-1) defeated Atleticos (0-5) 82-70 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Piratas. Atleticos was better in third quarter 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Piratas dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Atleticos' 30. They outrebounded Atleticos 34-22 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) who led his team to a victory scoring 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. American forward Brian Conklin (201-89, college: St.Louis) helped adding 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) with 18 points and 5 rebounds and the former international Elias Ayuso (190-77, college: USC) scored 14 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.
