Bayamon - San German 101-92

Vaqueros can celebrate their first win this season after four consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Atleticos (2-7) 101-92. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Atleticos won third quarter 31-29. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Atleticos' 38. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. The winners were led by American center Greg Smith (208-91, college: Fresno St.) who scored that evening 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized Polish point guard Francis Jonathan Han (185-87, college: Fairfield) supported him with 17 points and 6 assists. Even 15 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists by the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) did not help to save the game for Atleticos. The former international guard Isaac Sosa-Carrion (190-90, college: Canisius) added 21 points for lost side. Five Vaqueros and four Atleticos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vaqueros (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighth place, which they share with Mayaguez. Atleticos at the other side dropped to the seventh position with seven games lost. Vaqueros' next round opponent will be league's leader Piratas in Quebradillas and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
