Ramon Clemente selected the top Puerto Rican playing abroad in last week's games - May 18, 2019

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

We bring you last week's top performances from Puerto Ricans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Ramon Clemente
Ramon Clemente
#1. This week's number one is an experienced international power forward Ramon Clemente (200-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Argentina). He led San Lorenzo to a victory over the closely-ranked Ferro (25-13) crushing them 105-77 in the Argentinian La Liga in Sunday night's game. Clemente was MVP of the game. He scored 22 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 21 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. San Lorenzo de Almagra (32-6) is placed first in the La Liga. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Clemente averages: 5.0ppg, 2.8rpg, 2FGP: 43.1%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 73.5% in 30 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Puerto Rican and American. Clemente is currently a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team. He used to play for Indios de Mayaguez in Puerto Rican league.

Maurice Harkless
Maurice Harkless
#2. Second place goes to former international swingman Maurice Harkless (203-93, college: St.John's, currently plays in NBA). Harkless could not help the Portland Trail Blazers (53-29) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite his very good performance the Portland Trail Blazers (53-29) were crushed 116-94 on the road by the Golden State Warriors. Harkless was the second best scorer with 17 points. He also added 4 rebounds and 3 blocks. It's Harkless' fourth season with the team. Harkless has relatively good stats this year: 7.9ppg, 4.6rpg, 1.3apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 57.4%(197-343), 3FGP: 27.4% and FT: 67.6%. He is another player who holds two passports: Puerto Rican and American. Harkless played for the Puerto Rican national team in 2016. Strangely he has never played in Puerto Rico.

Gian Clavell
Gian Clavell
#3. The Puerto Rican player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Gian Clavell (193-93, college: Colorado St., currently plays in Spain). Clavell was not able to help Movil Estudiantes (10-21) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Movil Estudiantes lost 82-90 in Valencia to the much higher-ranked (#4) Basket. Clavell was the top scorer with 15 points in 25 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. It was Movil Estudiantes' fifth consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. It's Clavell's first year with the team. This season Clavell has relatively solid stats: 12.7ppg, 2.3rpg, 2FGP: 49.1%, 3FGP: 35.1% and FT: 70.3% in 31 games. He is also a member of the Puerto Rican senior national team.

Gary Browne
Gary Browne
#4. Guard Gary Browne (185-93, college: WVU, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an Ironi Nes-Ziona's victory against the closely-ranked Beer Sheva (15-17) 103-91 in the Israeli Winner League in Sunday night's game. Browne recorded 11 points and added 4 assists (made all of his six free throws). Ironi Hai Motors Nes-Ziona (14-18) is placed sixth in the Winner League. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. Browne has reliable stats this season: 13.9ppg, 5.1rpg, 4.9apg and 1.1spg. He has both American and Puerto Rican nationalities. Browne is also Puerto Rican national team player. He used to play for Coamo in Puerto Rican league.
