Aguada stormed past San German to surge ahead in the series. The game was mostly controlled by Santeros. Atleticos managed to win second period 15-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Santeros dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Atleticos' 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American power forward Joseph Jones (206-86, college: Texas A&M) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and the former international point guard Alexander Abreu (180-91, college: W.Georgia) accounted for 16 points and 6 assists. Five Santeros players scored in double figures. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: LBSU) came up with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) added 12 points and 5 assists respectively for Atleticos in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Ponce - Fajardo 108-96

Ponce overcame Fajardo in the opener. The game was mostly controlled by Leones. Cariduros managed to win third quarter 29-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Leones had a 35-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Cariduros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican Victor Liz (193-86) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 8 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!). The former international swingman Angel-Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Naturalized American forward Derek Reese (201-93, college: Tennessee) answered with 25 points and 9 rebounds and Dominican point guard Juan Miguel Suero (198-93) added 8 points and 6 assists in the effort for Cariduros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Bayamon beat Mayaguez for the opening victory. The game was mostly controlled by Vaqueros. Indios managed to win third quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Indios 39-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. American center Greg Smith (208-91, college: Fresno St., agency: Wasserman) nailed 23 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international Javier Mojica (190-84, college: CCSU) accounted for 15 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Brian Conklin (201-89, college: St.Louis) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Christian Pizarro (180-95, college: Miami Dade CC) added 11 points respectively for Indios in the defeat. Four Vaqueros and five Indios players scored in double figures. Indios' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

Quebradillas rallied past Arecibo in Game 1. The game without a history. Piratas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. American guard Tu Holloway (183-89, college: Xavier) stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 assists for the winners and the former international swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American forward Reginald Buckner (206-91, college: Ole Miss) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Piratas and four Capitanes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game.
