Javier Mojica gets MVP of the Week award for Puerto Rican BSN- July 24, 2021
The 37-year old shooting guard had the game-high 36 points adding two assists for Bayamon in his team's victory, helping them to crush Arecibo (#1, 3-2) with 21-point margin 91-70. It allowed Bayamon to consolidate first place in the Puerto Rican BSN. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Bayamon already had a very good start winning all 5 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Mojica had a remarkable nine three-pointers out of 9 attempts. He has many years of experience at Bayamon, through which he has constantly improved. Central Connecticut State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Mojica is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.0ppg) and averages solid 55.9% from behind 3-point line. The second most remarkable performance in last week's games was 26-year old international Isaiah Pineiro (200-SF-95) of Quebradillas. Pineiro impressed basketball fans with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course he led Quebradillas to another comfortable win 109-91 over slightly higher-ranked Humacao (#5, 0-3) being unquestionably team leader. Quebradillas' 5th position in Group A has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 2-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Pineiro is one of the most experienced players at Quebradillas and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last week was another Bayamon's star - international guard Angel Rodriguez (180-PG-92, agency: Shark Sports Management). Rodriguez showcased his all-around game by recording 14 points, seven rebounds and fourteen assists (!!!) in the last week. He was another key player of Bayamon, helping his team with a 91-70 easy win against #1 ranked Arecibo in a game of the week. Bayamon started extremely well this year. They recorded 5 victories without losing a single game in Group A. Rodriguez turns to be one of the very best players in the league while he is also a leader of the top team having his eyes on the championship title. Rodriguez has a great season in Puerto Rico. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 9.2apg (best passer). Other top performing players last week: 4. Jessie Govan (211-C-97) of Mayaguez - 25 points and 5 rebounds 5. Alex Renfroe (191-PG-86) of Ponce - 15 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists 6. Christopher Ortiz (203-F-93) of Guayama - 19 points and 9 rebounds 7. Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-F-94) of Carolina - 16 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Michael Rosario (190-SG-90) of Quebradillas - 27 points and 3 rebounds 9. Tu Holloway (183-PG-89) of Quebradillas - 25 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Kyle Gibson (196-G/F-87) of Guayama - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues.
