The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Atenienses (5-2) in Manati on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by leader Cangrejeras (4-0) 72-67. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Atenienses. It was a great evening for American forward Shae Kelley (185-1991, college: Minnesota) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Kamaria McDaniel (178-1999, college: Michigan St.) helped adding 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American forward DreUna Edwards (183, college: Baylor) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Cangrejeras have a solid series of four victories in a row. Santurce maintains second place with 4-0 record behind leader Manati. Manati at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Santurce are looking forward to face Hatillo (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Manati will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Carolina. Fourth ranked Gigantes (3-2) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 9th ranked Moca (1-4) 74-72 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for guard Kiara Leslie (183-1995, college: NC State) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Teana Muldrow accounted for 18 points. Forward Alexis Jennings (190-1996, college: S.Carolina) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for Moca in the defeat. Gigantes have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fourth place with 3-2 record, which they share with Isabela. Newly promoted Moca stay at the bottom position with four games lost. They share it with Hatillo. Carolina will play against Isabela (#5) on the road in the next round. Moca will play against Lares (#6) to get more than just one victory in their record.
Fifth ranked Pollitas (3-2) beat at home 6th ranked Lares (2-4) by 9 points 73-64, which is the biggest margin this round on Friday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lares. DeAnna Wilson fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Ariel Colon produced a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Lares' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Isabela moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Carolina. Loser Lares keep the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with San German. Isabela will meet at home Carolina (#4) in the next round. Lares will play against Moca and hope to secure a win.
