Second defeat of league's leader Pollitas (4-2) against second ranked Cangrejeras (4-1) 79-73 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Pollitas. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Santurce looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for American forward Shae Kelley (185-1991, college: Minnesota) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. The other American import guard Kamaria McDaniel (178-1999, college: Michigan St.) contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American swingman Quionche Carter (183, college: FGCU) replied with 23 points and 8 rebounds for Isabela. Cangrejeras have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Isabela at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Santurce. Isabela will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Santurce will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Moca on the road.
Important game to mention about took place in Juana Diaz. Eighth ranked Monarcas (2-2) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 7th ranked Caguas (1-3) 75-73 on Thursday evening. American players dominated the game. Center Imani McGee-Stafford (201-1994, college: Texas) scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Tess Amundsen chipped in 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was center Kai James (196-1995, college: FSU) with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Caguas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Monarcas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hatillo and Moca. Caguas lost third consecutive game. Caguas at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. They share it with Leonas. Monarcas will play against Yauco (#7) in the next round. Caguas will play against Carolina to get more than just one victory in their record.
Atenienses' fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after two consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Hatillo (2-2) 67-52 on Thursday. Kaela Hilaire notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort. Even 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists by Dariauna Lewis did not help to save the game for Hatillo. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Atenienses (1-2) left bottom position moving up to eighth place. Loser Hatillo keeps the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Moca and Monarcas. Manati will again meet higher ranked Hatillo (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hatillo will have a break next round.
