BSNF Round 8 (Regular Season): Monarcas edge Carolina by three points

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 8 in the BSNF took place in Juana Diaz. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Gigantes (3-4) to sixth ranked Monarcas (3-3) 62-59 on Tuesday evening. Monarcas forced 20 Carolina turnovers. The best player for the winners was American center Imani McGee-Stafford (201-1994, college: Texas) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds. The other American import forward Tess Amundsen (185-1999, college: CSUN) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Jordanian guard Aisha Sheppard (175-1998, college: Virginia Tech) produced 27 points and 6 rebounds for the guests. Monarcas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Yauco. Carolina at the other side keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Monarcas is looking forward to face Yauco (#5) in the next round. Carolina will play against Leonas and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Cangrejeras (4-3) against ninth ranked Atenienses (2-3) on Wednesday night. Visiting Cangrejeras were defeated by Atenienses in a tough game in Manati 58-66. The former international forward India Pagan (185-1999, college: Stony Brook) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. Kaela Hilaire contributed with 21 points and 8 assists for the winners. American guard Kamaria McDaniel (178-1999, college: Michigan St.) replied with 21 points and 5 rebounds for Santurce. Cangrejeras' coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Manati moved-up to eighth place. Defending champion Santurce keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Hatillo. Manati will play against Caguas (#9) at home in the next round. Santurce will have a break next round.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hatillo. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of Alexis Jennings who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. McKenzie Forbes responded with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Moca moved-up to second place. Loser Hatillo dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Santurce. Moca will meet league's leader Isabela on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hatillo will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 8 bottom-ranked Leonas were defeated by Hatillo in a road game 75-62. Caguas were beaten by Isabela at home 79-85.
The best stats of 8th round was 18 points and 14 rebounds by Samantha Fuehring of Moca.

Hatillo - Leonas 75-62

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Leonas (1-4) were defeated on the road by second ranked Hatillo (4-3) 75-62 on Monday. Strangely Leonas outrebounded Hatillo 51-37 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of guard McKenzie Forbes (183-2000, college: USC, agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and guard Essence Booker (173-1999, college: UNLV) who added 13 points and 5 assists during the contest. Center Shelby Cheslek (196-1992, college: Gonzaga, agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and swingman Taya Corosdale (190-1999, college: Duke) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory Hatillo went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with Santurce. Leonas lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with four games lost. Hatillo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Leonas will play against Carolina (#7) and hope to win that game.

No shocking result in a game when first ranked Pollitas (5-2) defeated on the road 8th ranked Caguas (2-4) 85-79 on Tuesday. Isabela dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Caguas' 34. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Quionche Carter (183, college: FGCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and guard Lasha Petree (183, college: Purdue) who added 23 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Forward Alisia Jenkins (186-1994, college: S.Florida) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and center Kai James (196-1995, college: FSU) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Isabela maintains first position with 5-2 record. Newly promoted Caguas dropped to the ninth place with four games lost. Isabela will meet at home league's second-placed Moca in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Caguas will play against Manati (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
