Romero comes back to Al Ahly Tripoli

Ismael Romero

Defending champion Al Ahly Tripoli (D1) added experienced 34-year old Puerto Rican-Cuban international center Ismael Romero (205cm-100kg-1991) to their roster. Romero, who previously played for Tripoli, recently played for Meralco Bolts in the Filipino PBA league. In 5 games, he put up impressive stats: 22.0ppg, 17.4rpg, 2.6apg, 1.2spg, and 1.0bpg last season. During the last season summer, he played for Al Ahly Tripoli and also participated in 5 games in the Arab Club Championships, averaging 12.6ppg, 9.8rpg, 1.6apg, and 1.2spg. Romero's performance earned him the title of League Player of the Week.
In 2015, he was selected by the Grand Rapids Drive (D-League) in the fourth round (63rd overall) of the draft.
Romero also represented Puerto Rico at the FIBA Olympic Games in Paris (France) two years ago. During this event, he scored an average of 7.3 points per game and had 7 rebounds per game.
He is a highly experienced player. His career allowed him to visit five different continents, while he played in eleven different countries. Romero tasted the life as a pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and of course North America. He has played previously in Argentina (Quimsa), Israel (Hapoel Haifa), Mexico (Libertadores, Panteras and Capitanes), Puerto Rico (Vaqueros, Atleticos and Mets), Spain (Real Betis), South Korea (Sonicboom), Cuba (Lobos and Villa Clara), Dominican Republic (Indios), NBA G League (Grand Rapids Gold) and Nicaragua (Real Esteli).
Romero played in the final of the Argentinian La Liga in 2021.
