The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Atleticos (20-12) in Arecibo on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by second ranked Capitanes (16-12) 106-85. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Arecibo looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Arecibo made 8 blocks. The former international guard Alfonso Plummer (184-1997, college: Illinois) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points. Brazilian-American center Tim Soares (211-1997, college: Master's) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Marlon Hargis (201-1999, college: SFU) replied with 20 points for San German. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Arecibo maintains second position with 16-12 record having nine points less than leader San German. San German lost third consecutive game. They still keep top place with 12 games lost. Arecibo are looking forward to face Manati (#6) on the road in the next round. San German will play against Mayaguez (#5) and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Gigantes (17-13) which played road game in Santurce against one of their biggest challengers Cangrejeros (15-15). Third ranked Gigantes managed to get a 10-point victory 94-84. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Cangrejeros. The former international point guard Tremont Waters (180-1998, college: LSU, agency: Shark Sports Management) scored 30 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Scottie James Jr. chipped in 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. American forward DJ Wilson (208-1996, college: Michigan) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Cangrejeros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Carolina maintains third position with 17-13 record having six points less than leader San German which they share with defeated Santurce. Santurce at the other side dropped to the third place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Aguada. Carolina will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santurce will play at home against Aguada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Vaqueros (21-11) which hosted in Bayamon second-ranked Criollos (18-11). First ranked Vaqueros managed to get a 8-point victory 107-99. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vaqueros have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 21-11 record. Loser Criollos keep the second place with 11 games lost. Bayamon will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Caguas will play against Mayaguez and hope to secure a win.
