Lady Blue Devils wins 2007 SKABA female league Championship

Basseterre, St.Kitts (September 18, 2007):-The FirstCaribbean International Bank Lady Blue Devils won 2007 SKABA National Bank Female League title after an exciting 3 game series against the defending Champions the Western Union Cayon Lionesses. The series got off to an impressive start when the Lady Devils edged the defending champs 35-34 in a keenly contested encounter at the Dorset Hard Court. The Lady Devils were behind for most of the game by as much as 10 points but a late 4th quarter surge led by a great defensive effort by Charissa Thomas who came off the bench to lead the Devils charge which resulted in their narrow 1 point victory.
The Challengers hard court was the stage for Game 2 of the best of 3 series which saw the Cayon girls roaring back with an impressive 38-31 victory. The game was close throughout but the Lionesses of Cayon pulled ahead in the dying moments of the game to finish with the series equaling victory. Maliesha Caesar led all scorers with 14 points and 11 rebounds while teammates Pamella “Pats” Huggins supported well with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Shameca Baker also chipped in with 9 points and 4 rebounds. No player for the Lady Blue Devils reached double figures however good contributions came from Averille McKoy with 9 points and 10 rebounds and Vanessa Parris with 8 points and 6 rebounds.
In the final and deciding game 3 the Lady Devils dominated the final game with a convincing 46-37 victory over the defending champions to win the championship. The Devils ended the first half up 23-16 led by Vannesa Parris and Leondra Cotton with 17 and 12 points respectively. Cotton had another MVP like performance as she added 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. Pamella Huggins and Shacarma Warner played valiantly in a losing effort as they combined for 21 points and 5 rebounds. Team leader Maliesha Caesar and the leagues top scorer Shameka Baker had very low key performances with 7 and 5 points respectively.
Leondra Cotton won her 2nd finals MVP title as she led the Lady Blue Devils to their 2nd SKABA Female League title in 3 years.
