Cotton Ground outlasts Hitters

The 2010 LIME SKABA league has started the way the 2009 season ended for Rams Hitters. The season has not come off to a very good start for the winningest team in SKABA the Hitters as they have followed their season ending 2 straight losses in the 2009 finals with a lack-luster opening night performance against the Antigua Warriors which saw them being down some 30 points when rain forced an abrupt end to the match. The multi-time champions continued their rough stretch on Saturday when they were humbled by the always dangerous Joseph Parry Cotton Ground Rebels. Hitters played with the usual swagger and confidence that we have been accustomed to. However it was obvious that the absence of forward Shawn Shabba Forbes left a huge void in the Hitters offense and defense. At the end of the first half Cotton Ground held a very slim 23-22 lead over the Hitters.

Things remained the same for the 2nd half as 30 year veteran Trevor Marty Huggins once again led a consistent Hitters offense. The multi-time champions were however matched by the younger, bigger, more athletic Cotton Ground. At the final whistle Hitters found themselves falling to the Rebels 80-79 in what can only be described as a huge upset. This was Hitters 3rd straight SKABA league loss dating back to the finals last season where they were swept by the Horsford's Ghetto Roots. This is maybe the first time in the clubs History that they have lost 3 straight SKABA matches. This was the first time Cotton Ground has defeated the Hitters.

Hitters Trevor Marty Huggins led all scorers with 22 points while Jenerson Buju France and Royden Browne led Cotton Ground with 20 points each.

Hitters next scheduled game will be on Sunday versus former Champions St.Pauls Hard Wine Tuff Knots while Cotton Ground is expected to take on 2009 A Division Champions Ghaut Bucks on Saturday.

Why mini Kevin Durant' St.Kitts Top NBA Pick Jonathan Isaac has the Draft's highest ceiling - 1 Year ago
The concept of an NBA prospect having a 'high ceiling is something that's often discussed, but rarely defined. Is this the most exciting thing we can say about a player on draft night, meaning that, someday, he could become that franchise cornerstone every team needs? Or are we saying that a player has the physical attributes and the athletic prowess to round into a phenomenal basketball player, if he puts in the hard work and gets some lucky breaks? Or is that term a backhanded complime...   [read more]
