Basseterre, St.Kitts (August 21, 2010): Director of Sports, Dave Connor has announced that a number of players have been chosen from a list of hopefuls to pursue scholarships in the United States. Although Connor was tight-lipped on the names of the players SKABA General Secretary Wallis Wilkin confirmed the names of at least two of the players
According to the long time SKABA executive member Lady Roots Captain Teneille Lapsey and Lady Blue Devils forward Brasier Audain have both earned themselves scholarships to US Colleges. Wilkin stated that both Lapsey and Audain left the island on Tuesday to begin their college basketball journey.
Specualtion has been rife about the names of the remaining players however it is believed that Horsfords Ghetto Roots guard and SKABA MVP Rymal Browne (186-G-84), Tuff Knots Power Forward and team Captain Noren Maynard (196-F-83) along with Javed Williams (196-F-87) and Cayon Lionesses forward Shacarma Warner are the players who is widely expected to be leaving shortly to begin their college basketball careers.

I am proud of the youngsters and I am even more proud of the basketball fraternity as it continues to produce talented world-class players despite the absence of a world-class facility which other sports in the federation have benefitted from including cricket and athletics, said SKABA General Secretary and Ghetto Roots Manager Wallis Wilkin.
I think that the development of basketball is being stifled by the absence of an appropriate facility and this year has been most glaring in terms of how the absence of a proper facility has hampered the basketball league as 3-4 weeks of games had to be postponed due to inclement weather which has seriously hampered the proper administration of the league. Inclement weather is a perennial problem which has seriously affected the development of the sport . We have been promised a proper facility for as long as I could remember and we are in 2010 and we are still being promised. However I think with Mr. Glen Ghost Phillip a past player and SKABA legend as the new Minister of Sports in St.Kitts then I think the light at the end of the tunnel is becoming brighter however in the meantime the game continues to struggle despite the best efforts of its management and to the credit of our players they continue to show much talent and earn themselves scholarships despite the presence of an adequate indoor facility, Wilkin continued.
Over 20 young men and women have earned themselves basketball scholarships over the years. More than every other sport in St.Kitts-Nevis with the exception of athletics.

Why mini Kevin Durant' St.Kitts Top NBA Pick Jonathan Isaac has the Draft's highest ceiling - 1 Year ago
The concept of an NBA prospect having a 'high ceiling is something that's often discussed, but rarely defined. Is this the most exciting thing we can say about a player on draft night, meaning that, someday, he could become that franchise cornerstone every team needs? Or are we saying that a player has the physical attributes and the athletic prowess to round into a phenomenal basketball player, if he puts in the hard work and gets some lucky breaks? Or is that term a backhanded complime...   [read more]
