The Horsfords Ghetto Roots once again are the only club in SKABA with 4 registered teams including2 Premier Division Teams, a Junior Team and a Girls Team. Only one other clubhas featuredtwo Premier Division teams in the same season and that was McKnight Trotters sometime back in the 90s .

This year the club the club intends to commemorate their historic OECS Club Championship. In 1987 the Ghetto Roots became the first ever OECS Club Champions when they won the inaugural tournament in Dominica defeating well known OECS Club teams like the Domnica Cardinals , Antiguan Skillville and the Grenada Sparklers.

According to Manager of the Ghetto Roots Club Wallis Wilkin the idea of the 25thanniversary commemoration came from club treasurer Clive Naba Collins who has been a member of the club since those glory days . No official date or activities have been discussed or finalized for the celebration as Wilkin indicated that a committee will be put in place to recommend , plan and implement the various activities. However one event that has been suggested to commemorate the 25thAnniversary is a revival of sorts of the tournament with a OECS Club Invitational Tourney.

The OECS Club Championship was last held in the early 1990s . Only Ghetto Roots and Hitters have participated in the tournament.

The last time a sub-regional club tournament of this kind was held was right here in St.Kitts in 2006 with the Caribbean Club Basketball Invitational. That tournament featured some 8 teams from throughout the region including the Trinidad and Tobago Moriah Topshotters, The Antigua Defense Force Warriors and the Antigua Kings in addition to the Champion teams from Dominica and St. Maarten. That tournament was won by the St.Kitts Champions the Fig Tree Dirt Revellers.

The Ghetto Roots are one of the most successful franchises in local basketball having one 7 SKABA National Championship Titles along with numerous Junior Division and A division titles. The Ghetto Roots last won the National Title in 2009 and has been to at least the final four each of the last 3 seasons.

The 2012 SKABA League begins on Sunday April 1st

Why mini Kevin Durant' St.Kitts Top NBA Pick Jonathan Isaac has the Draft's highest ceiling - 1 Year ago
The concept of an NBA prospect having a 'high ceiling is something that's often discussed, but rarely defined. Is this the most exciting thing we can say about a player on draft night, meaning that, someday, he could become that franchise cornerstone every team needs? Or are we saying that a player has the physical attributes and the athletic prowess to round into a phenomenal basketball player, if he puts in the hard work and gets some lucky breaks? Or is that term a backhanded complime...   [read more]
