Jeffers earns college rookie of the year honors

Former St.Kitts Amateur Basketball Association SKABA Female league star player Arcilla Jeffers led her University of Maine at Fort Kent, UMFK Lady Bengals to the NAIA national tournament. The Fort Kent women had an undefeated season in their Sunrise conference thus earning their position in the national tournament. The Benagls last loss a game back in January 11 to NCAA Div. 3 Independent Saint Joseph’s College. Coach of the Bengals Lucas Levesque’s responded to the loss by reeling off a school record 15 straight wins and they feel they are positioned well to make a significant impact on the National Tournament for the 2nd time in 3 years. The most significant factor in the team’s success has been the addition of Arcilla Jeffers at the beginning of the school year. Jeffers, who played for the Girls of Ghetto Roots in the local SKABA female league, earned herself a scholarship after having a apectacular season in the inagural SKABA Female Tournament. Arcilla has impressed, earning Sunrise conference player of the week honors as well as the Sunrise Conferences rookie of the year honors. Arcilla averaged just over 10 points per game and grabbed an average of 8 rebounds per game. She shook off some early season culture shock and injuries to complete an exceptional first season as UMFK’s starting center.
The Daughter of local basketball legend Arthur Jeffers led her team in field goal percentage at over 45% from the floor and is the 10th ranked offensive rebounder in NAIA Div. III womens college basketball. Arcilla along with Geneice Bassue and Hamil Bassue all earned themselves scholarships to UMFK.
Hamil has also been doing well averaging over 10 points per game. The 6'-4" guard had 12 points and 8 assists in his most recent game on Saturday in a loss to Lyndon State College. The UMFK men's team have had opposite fortunes to the female counterparts as the failed to reach the national tournament ending the year with a 13-15 record.
