Lyttle drops 14 for Comets

Sancho Lyttle (193-C-83, college: Houston) opened the WNBA season with 2 points and 2 rebounds for Houston Comets against Detroit. The latter tasted the win in the opener 85:66. Katie Smith scored 21 points and Plenette Pierson added 17 to lead the Shock, who have played in the WNBA finals in three of the last five seasons. The Shock took control with a 20-1 run that stretched between the third and fourth quarters. The Comets finished with 23 turnovers, leading to 25 Detroit points, and allowed 20 offensive rebounds.
Last night the Minnesota Lynx overcame the Houston Comets with Sancho Lyttle 98:92 in overtime to improve to 2-0 record. The Comets played their season home opener but could not hold on to a 12-point lead in the final frame. Seimone Augustus scored 9 points in the last 5 minutes of regulation to help the Lynx to rally from behind and force overtime. Nicky Anosike added 4 points early in the extra period as the Lynx went on a 6:2 run and never looked back. It was the 3rd straight loss for the Comets since the start of the season. Seimone Augustus came up with 25 points to lead the Lynx. Nicky Anosike added 20 points, while Anna De Forge contributed 19 in a win. Tina Thompson answered with 20 points and 9 boards for the Comets. Sancho Lyttle and Mabika dropped 14 points apiece in a losing effort.
