VIN - Bequia Basketball Elects Executive Committee for 2017-2019 period- July 24, 2017

The Membership of the Bequia Basketball Association elected a new
Executive Committee to serve for two years from 2017 to 2019 on June
19th at the Bequia District Council. Sabrina Mitchell was re-elected
uncontested as President, to lead the organization for another term. The
annual tournament, going into its 19th consecutive season begins soon,
opening on July 15th and running until August 27th. Cornelius Farrel and
Colson Peters were also re-elected, as Vice President and Treasurer
respectively. Newcomer Givin Forde was elected Secretary and Anthony
Sargeant as Secretary-Treasurer. Delwain Simmons was re-elected Games
Secretary and Kelan Edwards was re-elected Players Representative. The
elections included four appointed positions: Rick Gurley as Assistant
Games Secretary, and three committee members Leandru Charles, Sydian
Warner and Vernell Phillips, who join the Executive for the first time.
The Annual General Meeting was represented by 11 teams: East Blazers,
Rising Stars, Raptors, Wizards, Blazing Heat, Southern Stars, Young
Duke, Titans, Dragons, Rockets, and Young Wizards.
The Agenda of the meeting included the President's Report and a
detailed assessment of the financial statements of the Association.
Mitchell spoke of the financial challenges facing all sports in SVG and
congratulated the Association for meeting those challenges, balancing
the budget and continuing to develop basketball in Bequia. Mitchell also
reviewed the developments of the past year, as well as discussed
preparations for the upcoming tournament.
Sabrina gave the commitment of the BBA to continue to put great emphasis
on the development of the children's league, the U16 Division.
Sabrina thanked the U16 coaches for their hard work over the years,
which has produced excellent results, with the Bequia youth players
performing well and winning the Secondary School National Championships
as well as making the 3x3 Youth team that represented SVG at the IBF
Antilles 3x3. A basketball scholarship was awarded to Austin Derrick to study and play in Taiwan, who leaves for Taiwan next week.
