Newly promoted Al Salam (SBL) tabbed 27-year old Vincentian international center Akeme Smart (221-104kg-91, college: McCook CC). He played in the summer at Brujos Izalco in Salvadorean Liga Superior. In 30 games he averaged impressive 17.1ppg, 15.2rpg (#4 in the league), 1.2apg and 2.1bpg. Smart helped them to win the league title. Good season as he was selected League Player of the Week (2 times).
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Smart also represented Saint Vincent at the CBC Championships in Tortola (British Virgin Islands) three years ago. His stats at that event were 6 games: 1.3ppg, 1.3rpg.
Smart has played also professionally in Canada (Windsor Express), Romania (Olimpic) and Spain (Santfeliuenc, Benidorm and AEC Collblanc).
He attended McCook Community College until 2013 and it will be his sixth season in pro basketball.
