Medellin have stepped in the semifinal stage of the South American Club Championship. They finished the action in Group A with a comfortable win over Univalle. Medellin thus improved at 2-1 record to clinch the second spot in the pool. Univalle completed the preliminary action winless at 0-3 record. Yaneth Arias (188-F-82, agency: Next Level) delivered 20 points to lead Medellin. Erika Valek contributed 15 points in the victory. Zulema Cespedes answered with 16 points and 6 boards for Univalle. Romina Rodriguez had 11 points in defeat. Medellin will face U.T.E in the semis on Friday. Univalle will fight for the 5th-8th spot against Regatas Lima.
Santiago - Ourinhos 37-80
Ourinhos completed their South American Club Championship preliminary round campaign in style. They thrashed Santiago from Chile to clinch the top spot in Group A. Ourinhos thus advanced into the semifinal to face Central Enterriano on Friday. Santiago finished in the third position in Pool A. They would play for the 5th-8th spot against Malvin tomorrow. Tayara De Jesus (180-F-82) notched 12 points and 7 boards to lead the charge. Bethania Vasconcelos knocked down 11 points, while Karina Da Silva had 11 points and 14 boards for the winners. Catalina De La Quinta responded with 8 points for Santiago. Massiel Mondaca had 7 points in the losing effort.
Group B
Malvin - Regatas 70-84
Regatas Lima claimed the first win at the South American Club Championship in Ecuador. They defeated Malvin from Uruguay to finish the preliminary round at 1-2 record just outside the semifinal stage. Malvin failed to post a single victory and remained at the bottom of the ladder at 0-3. Regatas and Malvin will now fight for the 5th-8th place at the tournament. Regatas are scheduled to take on Univalle of Bolivia, while Malvin to play versus Santiago on Friday. Paola Ferrari (178-G/F-85) notched 27 points, 11 boards and 7 assists for the Lima outfit. Elvira Pino contributed 20 points for the winners. Lucia Guadalupe replied with 14 points for Malvin. Ximena Moure delivered 13 points in the losing effort.
UTE - C.Entrerriano 118-76
U.T.E remained undefeated at the South American Club Championship in Quito. They toppled Central Enterriano in the final game of the preliminary round to clinch the top spot in Group B. U.T.E would face Medellin of Colombia in the semifinal on Friday. Central Enterriano also booked the semifinal ticket despite the loss. They would be challenged by Ourinhos on July 17. Silvia Santos Luz (172-G-75) notched 24 points and 6 assists to lead U.T.E. Gisela Vega had 20 points, 7 boards and 4 assists in the victory. Liliana Tamburlini responded with 20 points for Central Enterriano. Maria Rotta canned 15 points in the losing effort.
