The Bahamas notched their first win of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) female under-16 championship with a 59-54 victory against Suriname on Tuesday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, Guyana. The Bahamas always stayed in control of the match and while Suriname went on a few runs, the Bahamas kept using runs of their own to keep ahead of their Dutch counterparts. Lead never really switched hands in the second half as both teams tried to run the basketball in the second half for easy points. Nevertheless, Valicia Demeritte dropped a tournament high 27 points and 11 rebounds in the game, establishing herself as a double-double threat and scoring machine at the rim early in the championship. Tanea Bowleg also had 11 points for the Bahamians. Anita Tolud was the top scorer for the Surinamese with 17 points while Mirelva Marica had 16 points in the loss.
