The Regular Season in Hoofdklasse just ended. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Ruckers (14-4) against third ranked Yellow Birds on Thursday night. Yellow Birds were edged by Yellow Birds 86-85. Strangely Ruckers outrebounded Yellow Birds 49-36 including a 19-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. International forward Dancell Leter (198-97) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds. International Chaief Wielingen (188-0) contributed with 12 points for the winners. The former international Xavier Elburg (196-96) replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for Ruckers. Ruckers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Yellow Birds have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains third position with 12-4 record having 2 victories less than leader Ruckers. Ruckers at the other side still keep top place with four games lost.
Another interesting game for De Schakel (10-7) which played on the court of one of their biggest challengers De Arend (9-8). Fifth ranked De Schakel crushed 73-44. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of De Arend. De Schakel have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. De Arend at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost.
Bottom-ranked Finabank managed to get the second consecutive victory on Thursday night. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked CLD 82-50. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 32-point difference proves that Finabank was well-prepared to that game. Andrew Blijd notched 31 points to lead the effort. Even 8 points by Neville Nelom did not help to save the game for CLD. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Finabank (3-14) moved-up to sixth place. CLD lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost.
In the last game of round 26 bottom-ranked CLD was beaten by Yellow Birds 89-75.
