The biggest surprise of round 5 in Hoofdklasse was guest De Schakel's (#4) easy road victory over CLD (#5) 71-53 on Sunday evening. The best player for the winners was Elray Ritfeld who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Dutch forward Jahmal Henar chipped in 7 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. De Schakel's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anvernee Verwey produced 22 points and 5 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field)for De Schakel. De Schakel maintains fourth place with 2-2 record. CLD at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Yellow Birds and Finabank. De Schakel will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. CLD will play against Finabank (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about was the one when third ranked De Arend (3-2) saved a 2-point victory edging 6th ranked Finabank (1-3) 56-54 on Sunday evening. The former international guard Emile La-Rose (185-97) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 7 rebounds. Chayf Elburg contributed with 13 points for the winners. Archinio Prado answered with 8 points and 5 rebounds for Finabank. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. De Arend moved-up to second place. Finabank lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Yellow Birds and CLD. De Arend will play against league's leader Ruckers in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Finabank will play against CLD (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Ruckers held Finabank to an opponent 14.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 34.9 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Finabank 54-33 including a 37-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international Safiero Fraser (193-96) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Rogerio Playfair chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Ruckers players scored in double figures. Ruckers' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest.
