MALONEY GARDENS, Trinidad Sept. 30, 2026 The TTPS
survived a furious fourth-quarter comeback from Spartans TT before closing out
an 84-79 victory Wednesday night at the Maloney Indoor Sporting Arena. The Police led for virtually the entire contest, but the
Spartans suddenly found another gear in the final five minutes, turning a
double-digit deficit into a tie game before TTPS regained control down the
stretch.\ With the victory, TTPS retained third place at 4-2,
while Spartans TT slipped to 2-4 in fourth. Spartans storm back Spartans TT trailed throughout the game until 4:28
remained in the fourth quarter, when leading scorer William Francis
attacked the basket for a layup to cut the Police advantage to 67-65. Francis, who finished with a double-double and game-high 22
points, 10 rebounds, three steals and a block, had kept the Spartans
within striking distance all night. Then came the play that brought the Maloney Indoor Sporting
Arena crowd to life. On the next possession, Zachary Julien stole the ball
from TTPS Fabrice Fisher and immediately found teenage sensation Idris
Martin, who converted to level the game at 67-67 with 4:14 remaining. After trailing for almost the entire night, Spartans TT had
finally pulled even. But TTPS refused to let the comeback become a collapse. Police close it out With the Spartans dealing with foul trouble in the closing
minutes, TTPS went straight at the opportunity. Sadiki Guerra came through with a crucial layup,
while Fisher repeatedly attacked the free-throw line to help the Police
regain control. Guerra finished with 20 points, including four
3-pointers from eight attempts, while adding three rebounds, two steals and
an efficiency rating of 18. Fisher contributed his first double-double 14 points and
13 rebounds, along with four assists, two steals and a block. Most
importantly, he went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line, providing the
Police with the points they needed to withstand the Spartans' final push. TTPS eventually stretched the lead back out and secured the
five-point victory. Balanced Police attack TTPS received 14 points from Mikahail Williams, who
added three rebounds and five steals. Jesse Hamilton contributed nine points, four
rebounds, three assists and three blocks, finishing with an EFF of 15,
while Nathyon Lewis scored eight and Joel Hinds added six. Backup center Samuel Waldron made a crucial block shot in the closing minutes that preserved TTPS slender lead in the closing minutes of the battle. As a team, TTPS shot 80 percent from the free-throw line,
making 24 of 30 attempts. The Police also collected 40 rebounds, dished
out 12 assists and recorded 13 steals. Francis leads Spartans Francis was the Spartans' offensive engine, shooting 8-for-13
from two-point range and finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds
for a game-high EFF of 24. Freedom Leon added 18 points, five rebounds, three
assists and three steals, while Theron Evelyn posted 11 points and
eight rebounds. Martin finished with nine points, including two
3-pointers, while Julien scored seven and produced four steals and three
assists. The Spartans finished with 41 rebounds, 17 steals and 16
assists, but 22 turnovers and 20 personal fouls made the closing stages
increasingly difficult. Standings tighten The victory keeps TTPS firmly in third place at 4-2,
while Spartans TT remain fourth at 2-4. The EIG EBL now shifts to the South Regional Indoor
Sporting Arena in Pleasantville on Friday for another doubleheader. At 7:30 p.m., Southside Elite (1-5) will face NCA
Warriors (2-4). Then at 9 p.m., first-place Caledonia Clippers
(5-1) will meet TTPS in a matchup that could have significant implications
near the top of the standings. For Spartans TT, Wednesday's comeback showed they could push
the Police to the brink. For TTPS, the lesson was equally clear: when the game
tightened as they did in their previous one point victory over Morvant Oilbirds,
they had enough composure and enough free throws to finish it. |
