Defence Force remains as the only unbeaten team after weekend round of matches in the North Zone Basketball League which featured eight games at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex.
On Sunday night, Defence Force, a former league championship team, defeated Straker Nets 78-62 after dominating the contest from the jump-ball.
The army/coastguard combination team led 18-8 after the first quarter and 34-26 at the interval. Nets did everything possible to stay in the contest but when the third stanza ended they were still trailing 54-43.
In the final quarter, their defence fell apart which allowed the opponents to go on a 12-2 run which pushed the opposition further on the backfoot and the match beyond their reach. For the winners, forward Kyeon Joseph in his first season for Defence Force led with 14 points and veteran forward Steven 'Lighter' Lewis connected on 12.
For Straker Nets who defeated the University of West Indies (UTT) the night before 77-59, point-guard Sidiki Guerra produced 17 points.
