Shak Attack in finals! - Jan 22, 2018

Detour Shak Attack in two back to back games this weekend advanced convincingly to the Barry Stewart Invitational Finals to meet Defence Force in a bid to win the coveted $40,000 1st Prize. Detour Shak Attack, Petrotrin Petro Jazz and Police were tied in the semi-finals and had a Round-Robin playoff to decide who would play the 1st Place seed, Defence Force in the finals.

Detour Shak Attack defeated Petrotrin Petro Jazz, on Saturday 20th January, 100 - 89 with Andy Best leading the score with 20 points including four 3-pointers, followed by Kern George 18 (three 3-pointers) and Wilt Vincent 17 points.

Mario Davis and Adrian Joseph were top scorers of the game for Petrotrin Petro Jazz, both scoring 23 points each. Mario sank an impressive six 3-pointers in his capacity of Coach / Player. Kevin Sargeant scored 18 points which included four 3-pointers.

Shak Attack then faced Police on Sunday and won 83 - 62 with their strong point guards Kurt Christian leading his team into the finals scoring 20 points; and Kenneth Roberts whose 16 points included three 3-pointers followed by the ever-consistent Kern George who scored 13 points, also including three 3-pointers. Ronel Winters top scored for Police with 20 points.

Proud Coach Gordon Felix shared that, 'This was not an easy position to be in. But, confidence is high for match fitness on Thursday as Detour Shak Attack lives for these types of challenges. My big Centers are at peak and we anticipate a good matchup against Defence Force who has many tall men.'

The finals games are set to start on Thursday 25, January with Police meeting Petrotrin Petro Jazz to contest 3rd and 4th Place at the Jean Pierre Complex at 6:30 PM, followed by Detour Shak Attack vs Defence Force at 8:00 PM. The second game will be on Saturday 27, January at the Jean Pierre Complex at 7:30 PM.

The finals of the Male Under 16 are scheduled for 4:00 PM and Male Under 21 for 5:30 PM preceding the 2nd match-up between the finalists on Saturday 27, also at the Jean Pierre Complex.

T&T's Chike Augustine was recently honoured by coaches in his final collegiate game with Martin Methodist College (MMC) on the 28th February, 2019.
