7' Center Johnny Hamilton will play in the NBA G League for Detroit Pistons development team, Grand Rapids Drive. On October 12, Pistons announced in a press release that Hamilton was waived from their roster which was reduced to 18 players, including a pair on two-way contracts.

Hamilton, who was undrafted out of the University of Texas-Arlington, played for the Pistons for in the 2018 Summer League and earned a training camp invite from the team. However, it was always likely that the seven-footer would end up as an affiliate player for the Grand Rapids.

On October 5, Hamilton had a productive NBA preseason debut for Pistons against San Antonio Spurs. Johnny tallied 6pts, 3rebs & 1bkl in 6mins court time and even had fans shouting 'Way to go Hamilton' every time he scored.

Meanwhile another player with T&T heritage will be playing in the NBA. The Denver Nuggets signed 6'5 wing DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell to a two-way deal. The Nuggets roster is now set at 17, with DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell being one of their two-way contracts.

Akoon-Purcell was outstanding for the Nuggets' summer league team. He is a lethal offensive weapon and can score in numerous situations whether catch & shoot or in transition. In Denver's opening win over Minnesota, Coach Jordi Fernandez lauded Akoon-Purcell for his activity and communication on the floor. In a breakout effort over Boston, he compiled three steals and 19 points - including a strong finish at the rim that caused Nuggets coach Michael Malone to peek over the elevated press seats on the baseline to praise Akoon-Purcell's aggressive style. While starting in place of an injured Malik Beasley in their victory over Milwaukee, Akoon-Purcell went 3-of-4 from 3-point distance and finished with 18 points.

From a G League perspective, he will be a pretty solid player for any team.

As a pro, Akoon-Purcell was the top scorer and MVP of the Danish Basketligaen League in 2017 and won his second consecutive championship earlier this year.
