Lions win opener - Jun 11, 2019

In the opening game of the EZBC 2019 Championships' Men's Division, Lawrence Park Lions scored a hard fought 67-62 win over their home town rivals O'Meara Knights on June 8. Knights controlled the early exchanges at the Maloney Indoor Sport Arena but Lions rallied back to reduce the advantage to 25-29 at the end of the first half.

Richard D'arceuil with a game high 20 led Lions in the comeback as they outscored Knights in the third quarter 18-15 and 24-18 in the final session for the victory. D'arceuil was ably supported by Michael Frederick with 15pts.

In the second game, defending champs Valencia Heat scored a comfortable 80-56 win against Macoya Basketball. Heat controlled the entire game 17-11, 38-21 and 62-32 by the end of the third quarter. Wayne 'Warlord' Richards led Heat with 17pts while Duane Virgil added 12pts. Akil Paynter had a game high 26 pts for Macoya.

Over in the North Zone Championships, Brian Chase Academy defeated Trailblazers 90- 73 at the Jean Pierre Complex in Port of Spain. The Academy controlled the game 24-16, 40-36 and 60-58 at the end of the third quarter.

For the winners, Kushiah King top score with 20pts, Chevy London had 19pts while Nathan Lewis added 17. Juvani Andrews led Trailblazers with 20pts and Lazarro Campbell chipped in with 14.

In the second game, veteran Steven Lewis had a game high 31pts for Defence Force in a losing 97-84 effort against Straker Nets. Nets led the first quarter 21-18 but the Army team rallied back to go ahead 40-38 by the first half. However, the third quarter the scores remained even, 64-64, before Nets pulled away in the final period.

Sadiki Guerra led Nets with 23pts while Colin Flemming had 16pts. Kerry McMillan contributed 15pts for Defence Force.

  



Prions wins thriller! - 2 days ago
T&T Prisons' basketball team scored a nail biting 81-76 win over Maloney Pacers in East Zone Championships on Sunday 9th June at the Maloney Indoor Complex. Prisons started the game aggressively from the tip off against a younger Pacers team. Pacers withstood the pressure to end the first half down by a point, 35-36. In the third sessions, Shakiel Bertrand and Jael Lewis sparked Pacers with a series of big blocks as they gained a close 59-57 advantage 59-57 at the end of the third quarter.    [read more]
