It was a battle of the forces on January 7 as the T&T Police Service (TTPS) and the T&T Defence Force (TTDF) women took the court at the Maloney Indoor Sport Arena to start off round four of the NBFTT National Invitational Championships (NIC).
Following a comfortable 76-49 win on Sunday over the newly added Enterprise- Maloney Combine team, the Defence Force was up for a bigger challenge having to face a strong Police unit.
A steady seven-point contribution by forward Anika La Roche-Brice helped Police maintain their early dominance, as TTPS held a 17-11 point lead as the first quarter ended.
Jameela Mc Carthy, who recently represented T&T in the 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool, and Captain Crystal-Ann George desperately tried to keep TTDF in the running. Yet some sharp shooting by Police's Joelisa Cooper from long range continued to dampen the army team's efforts.
TTPS guard, Kielle Connelly struggled from the field but still led all scorers with 18 points. Police emerged as the victors with the score line reading 56-38 at the end of regulation.
For Police, Kielle Connelly had a game high 18pts, Joelisa Cooper added 16pts and Leslie-Ann Bacquain chipped in with 10pts.
For Defence Force, Jameela Mc Carthy top scored with 11pts, Crystal-Ann George had 11pts and Ayana Mack had 9pts.
