The Board of Directors of the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFT) is pleased to announce the Virtual Launch of its Inaugural Trinidad and Tobago Female Basketball League (TTFBL) on December 11, 2020 which will premiere on the TTFBL's Facebook Page at 7:00 PM. Trinidad All Stars Steel Orchestra will perform the National Anthem in the sweet sound of Steel especially for our female athletes; as well as one of their best Panorama renditions at the event. Cleopatra Borel - TTO Shot Put Olympian and Roxie Gialdo - i95 FM will be Mistresses of Ceremonies.
The Honourable Minister Shamfa Cudjoe - Minister of Sport and Community Development will deliver the Virtual Keynote Speech; Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly - Minister of Education will bring virtual greetings, as the Trinidad and Tobago Schools Basketball Association plays a critical role in the development of Basketball and represents our feeder pool of athletes.
Head Administrators of the FIBA Family such as Hamane Niang - President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Andreas Zagklis - Secretary General of FIBA, Carol Callan - the first ever female President of FIBA Americas and Glyne Clarke
- President of the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) would be bringing greetings to Trinidad and Tobago in support of the Launch.
The TTFBL's mission is 'To unlock the potential of women, by creating optimal conditions and systems to support women and girls engaging in basketball.' Our vision is 'A sustainable national league for women by women'
The League will address women's basketball in a holistic manner; that is, from development to professional players and administration. Immediately following this launch, TTFBL will start a video series, 'Women and Basketball' which will be available on our YouTube channel and other social media platforms. TTFBL will also feature online skills development programs, community caravans, schools based pilot projects, coaching programs for individuals interested in training females, national skill challenges, officiating courses and 3x3 tournaments. Through the NBFTT the League will focus on sharpening all the tools necessary to develop and maintain competitiveness and interest in basketball and hence ensure that a sustainable league will be developed and maintained.
