Trinidad and Tobago's U16 ladies suffered a heavy 33 - 81 defeat in their second game of the Centrobasket U17 Women's 2023 Qualifiers when they faced Panama at the Alexis Arguello Sports Complex.
T&T, who fell to a narrow defeat against hosts Nicaragua in game 1, expected a tough assignment against Panama who beat Costa Rica in their opening match. They hoped to get off to another good start, but Panama had different ideas, asserting their dominance from the tip off.
Establishing a sizeable lead early in the match, Panama never gave T&T a chance to get back into the game. The Panamanians capitalized on T&T's turnovers and took full advantage of defensive lapses to put the game out of reach.
For T&T, power forward Amariah Clyne top scored with 9Pts plus 8Rebs, 3Asts, 2Stls with 6Turnovers (To). Guard Ty Warrick had 7Pts, 3Rebs, 2Stls & 8To. Center Mariah Charles chipped in with 5Pts, game high 12Rebs, 1Ast & 4To. While, point guard Carissa Ramdial was limited to 5Pts, 1Reb, 3Asts, 2Stls with 6To.
Point Guard Lya Gonzalez led Panama with a game high 14Pts, 3Ats, 3Stls, 1Reb with 2To. Power Forward Maria De Gracia contributed 14Pts, 9Rebs, 1Ast, 3Stls, 3Blks with 5To. Small Forward Destiny Chavez chipped in with double double 11Pts & 11Rebs plus 4Stls, 1Blk with 2To.
T&T will be back in action on Friday, taking on Costa Rica at 10:30pm (T&T time)
