Mixed results for NCGSA in DIAL opener- January 22, 2024

New Chapter Global Sport Academy (NCGSA) ended the opening night of the Destiny Invitational Arima League (DIAL) at the Princess Royal basketball court on 19/1/2024 with a 1-1 result from two matches. In the Championship Division, NCGSA scored a 71-57 win over The University of the West Indies (UWI) in the first game. They led from the tip off and ended the first quarter 14-11 and 36-26 at half time. By the end of the third, UWI fought back through the gallant effort of Christian Borneo reducing the margin to 49-46. However, they were unable to restrain NCGSA in the final period. For the winners, Judah Guy led with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assist and 2 steals. UWI Christian Borneo led all scorers with a game high double-double 17 points and 16 rebounds plus 2 steals and a block. In the Premier Division game, the bigger Caracas City team proved to be a more difficult opponent for NCGSA senior team despite falling behind by only 31-36 at half time. Led by Carlos Mayora with 20 points, Caracas controlled the tempo from the third period and pulled away for a 73-63 win. Timothy Belgrave led NCGSA with 13 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. On the following night, the game between Morvant Oilbirds and Defence Force was rescheduled to Thursday night due to adverse weather condition. Meanwhile, there were three games on Sunday 21. In the the
first of the two Championship contest, Spartans crushed Maloney Pacers B 116-86.
Amare Toney, who was the Player of the Match, scored a game high 34pts, 9rebs,
and 5 stls. For Pacers, Leshaun Alfred had an impressive double double 25pts
& 12rebs plus game high 6blks and 6asts in a losing effort. Josiah James led Mathew Pierre with a double double 17pts & game
high 11rebs plus game high 7asts & 5stls. For Defence Force, Jaheim Job
also tallied a double double 19points & 10rebs plus 2asts, 2stls & 1blk.
The final match was a Premier showdown between Maloney Pacers
A team and Black Mamba. An impressive display by point guard Akheel “Smally”
Boyd guided Pacers to a dominant 110-61 victory over their opponents. Boyd
enjoyed a game high double of 28pts
& 14asts plus 5rebs and game high 7stls. Alfredo Rivas led Black Mamba with
26pts, 3rebs and 1blk. |
