Briggs leads DACC in rebounds- February 8, 2024

In Illinois, 5-11 power forward Jillisa Briggs continues her rebounding prowess for Danville Area Community College (DACC) in the NJCAA Division 11, Region 24 Conference. In the first game, Briggs registered another double 10pts & game high 18rebs plus 3stls helping DACC to a 69-54 victory over division rivals Spoon River Community College in a non-conference game on January 31. It was the second time she dominated the boards tying her career best.
Her fellow freshman compatriots 6-3 Stephanie Stephen and Julissa Danglade also featured in the victory. Danglade added 2pts, career high 9rebs, 1blk & 1stl, while Stephen chipped in with 4pts, 2rebs, 1blk & 1stl. In their next game Briggs tallied 6pts, game high 13rebs, 2blks & 1stl but in a 53-90 loss at home against Lincoln Land Community College (19-3, 6-1) in a conference game on February 3. Stephen had 4pts, 6rebs. 1ast & 1stl, while Danglade had 2rebs & 1blk. DACCC (overall 14-8, 3-4 conference) next play Illinois Central Community College (14-8, 4-3) on February 10. Briggs is averaging 5.0ppg & 8.0rpg: 47.3 %2FPM & 62.9%FT. Danglade has 1.6ppg & 2.1rpg: 33.3%2FPM, 28.6%3FPM & 62.5% FT and Stephen 2.1ppg & 3.8rpg: 40.0%2FPM & 65.0%FT. Down south in Texas, 6-1 center Alysa Connelly had 4pts, 2rebs & 1stl as Howard College (overall 12-11, 1-6 Region 5) suffered a 48-62 loss at Frank Phillips College (13-9, 2-5) College in the NJCAA D1, Region 5 Conference, on February 5. Howard will be at home against Midland College (12-9, 3-4) on February 12. Connelly is averaging 1.3rpg & 1.9ppg: 20.0%2FPM & 55.6%FT. Over in Memphis, TN, 6-3 sisters Afrika and Nairobi Lewis were limited in Lemonye-Owen College 67-92 loss to Kentucky Central University (16-5, 11-3 SIAC) in the NCAA Division 11, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) on February 5. Afrika scored 2pts & 2rebs in four minutes off the bench, while Nairobi registered 2rebs, game high three blocks and one steal in eleven minute. Lemonye (9-11, 7-9 SIAC) at Spring Hill College and at Tuskegee University on February 10 and 12, respectively. Afrika Lewis is averaging 0.9ppg & 1.0rpg: 31.3%2FPM & 25.0%FTM, while Nairobi is averaging 1.6ppg, 2.3rpg & 1.0bpg: 43.3%2FPM & 50.0%FTM. |
