Jaylon Hyson signs with Missouri State University Basketball- June 16, 2024

Point Fortin resident Jaylon Hyson was among six recruits announced by Jared Phay, head coach of the Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP), to play for the Grizzly Basketball team for the 2024-2025 season. Hyson previously hails from the Borough of Siparia.
Hyson, who is a former student at Presentation College in San Fernando, Trinidad, started his basketball career at Advance Genetic Sports & Culture Club under the guidance of ex-Virginia Cavaliers & TT standout player Adrian Joseph. During the 2022-2023 season, the 6-6 Hyson attended high school as an exchange student at Community Christian School (CCS), Mineral Wells, Texas where he helped them to a 27-4 overall record and a 2nd place finish in the Texas Christian Athletic Fellowship, District 5 region. Hyson finished with an impressive stats record for an average of 13.3ppg, 1.5apg, 10.7rpg, 1.6spg & 2.3bpg & 14 double-doubles in 31 games. In addition, he won the Player of the Game Award on nine occasions during the season. After graduating from CCS, Hyson continued playing and training for Impact Academy based in Las Vegas, Nevada before signing to play with at the collegiate level. Coach Phay described Jaylon as a very athletic forward who possesses a seven-foot wingspan. He highlighted that he originally was a soccer player and swimmer before turning to basketball as his main sport a couple of years ago and will be able to play multiple positions on the court "Jaylon has come a long way in basketball in a short amount of time. His upside is ridiculously high," Phay said. |
