Leshaun Alfred chosen as the Revival Invitational Top Performer

As action heats up in the Revival Invitational Tournament over the weekend ending December 1, there were several outstanding individual performances. Most noteworthy is 21yrs old Leshaun Alfred, son of former national standout Kennyatta Alfred. Leshaun registered two twenty points in back to back victories for Caledonia Clippers on Friday and Saturday night. The 6-9 Leshaun Alfred is gradually emerging as one of the top young prospects in the country with his consistency in the Revival Invitational.

Second is national 3x3 player, Nathan Lewis, with 21pts & 15pts on Friday and Sunday respectively as Straker Nets recorded two victories.

Third is veteran point guard Sadiki Guerra with 25pts & 7pts for Straker Nets.

Fourth is Morvant Oilbirds Antonio Ambris with 15pts & 16pts on Friday and Sunday night respectively.

Fifth is Alfred’s teammate point guard Amaree Toney with 17 & 13 points respectively. Amaree is the son of former Defense Force standout player and head coach Nate Toney, who also was in charge of Clippers bench.

Sixth is Caracas City most consistent player Michal Moya with 18pts on Friday and 11pts on Saturday.

Seventh is Jeamelcio Wartes with 27pts, which guided Spartans to their first win on Saturday night.


Games recap - Friday:

Caledonia Clippers squash Morvant Oilbirds, 73-42

Led by 6-9 Leshaun Alfred with a game high 20pts, Caledonia Clippers crush their hometown rivals Morvant Oilbirds 73-42 in the Revival Basketball Tournament at St. Paul Street Indoor Complex. Clippers led 21-7 and 39-15 in the second. In the third, Oilbirds went on a late run in the third quarter to outscoring Clippers 17-11 but were still behind 50-32. In the final period, Oilbirds were unable to maintain their intensity as Clippers with contributions by Amaree Toney with 17pts and Zion Vincent 10 ran away with the victory. Antonio Ambris top scored with 15pts for Oilbirds in the losing effort.

Straker Nets shutdown Defence Force, 80-58

Nathan Lewis with a game high 21pts guided Nets to a commanding victory over Defence Force in the second game on Friday night. The battle started evenly with both teams trading baskets at each end of the court. Defence Force led the first quarter 15-14 and Nets rallied back to control the half-time 38-35. In the third period, Lewis took control with five three-pointers that shut down the Army team as Nets led 67-46 and surged to victory. Derick Boxhill had 13pts and Jamal King 11 for the losers.

Saturday:

Spartans overpower Caracas City, 62-50


Spartans registered their first victory in game one in the Revival Invitational Tournament. Led by Jeamelcjo Wartes with a game high 27pts, Caracas dominated the first period 18-9. In the second session, Spartans rallied back but Caracas held on to a narrow 27-26 second quarter. Thereafter, Spartans took control to overwhelm Caracas 42-38 in the third period and maintain their dominance for the rest of the game. Joshua Soseman added 12pts for the winners. Mechal Moya led Caracas with 18pts, Gabajal Mata had 12 and Hector Monoz 11pts.

Caledonia Clippers nip Police, 63-61

Caledonia Clippers scored their second successive win in a highly contest games against Police on Saturday night. Following their huge win the previous night, Clippers were again led by their youthful duo of 6-9 Leshaun Alfred with a game high 20pts and point guard Amaree Toney with 13pts. Police led by Fabrice Fisher with 15pts control the early tempo from the tip-off to led the first quarter 21-13 and the second 39-34. In the third, Clippers took charge with former national standouts Miguel Williams and Steven ‘Lighter’ Lewis along with veteran Olando Mapp providing the necessary on court support for their younger players. Clippers edged Police 47-46 in the third and held on for the hard fought win. Dextroy Manswell contributed 14pts for Police in a losing effort.

Sunday:

Straker Nets contain Morvant Oilbirds, 68-53


Straker Nets maintain their unbeaten record with a victory over Morvant Oilbirds in the first game on Sunday evening. The winless Oilbirds surprised Nets from the tip-off despite playing shorthanded. Led by Kelon Joseph with 16pts, Oilbirds outscored Nets 19-13 in the opening period. In the next quarter, Nets rallied back scoring 24 to 11 for a 37-30 lead at the half. Thereafter, Sadiki Guerra took control with a game high 25pts as Nets went on to secure the victory despite another surge by Oilbirds. Nets also had support from Nathan Lewis with 15pts while Tristan Benjamin chipped in with 12. For Oilbirds, Antonio Ambris added 16pts and Rashawn Hope scored 14pts.

Defence Force blast Caracas City, 72-43

In the second game, Defense Force bounced back from their heavy defeat two days earlier with a commanding display over Caracas City for their second victory of the tournament. Led by Jecelon Celestine with a game high 19pts and Kerry Mc Millan with 11pts, the Army squadron dictated the pace throughout the battle. For Caracas, Hector Monoz top scored with 12pts and Michal Moya chipped in with 11pts in the losing effort.
