Maloney Pacers delivered a commanding performance against Basic Basketball Academy (BBA), securing a decisive 91-67 victory in the marquee matchup of the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Commission Basketball League, First Division, held at the Woodbrook Youth Center on July 20. With this triumph, the Pacers elevated their record to an impressive 7-0, while BBA slipped to 2-5.
Spearheaded by the prolific Shakiel Bernard, who notched a game-high 32 points, Pacers asserted their dominance from the outset, overwhelming BBA with a staggering 38-10 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter. In the second quarter, BBA, led by their primary scorer Shayon King, who contributed 19 points, mounted a spirited comeback, outscoring Pacers 26-21. Nonetheless, Pacers maintained a substantial advantage, heading into halftime with a score of 59-36. Despite BBA's newfound momentum, the Pacers' earlier supremacy afforded them a comfortable cushion, as the third quarter concluded with a score of 78-53 in their favor. In the final stanza, the Pacers sealed their victory by outpacing BBA 23-14, thereby preserving their unblemished record. Bernard received commendable support from Lashwan Alfred, who tallied 21 points, while Akeel Boyd and Tyrese Fields each contributed 17 points. Fields also showcased his shooting prowess by sinking three three-pointers, including the final shot of the game, which was a climactic three-pointer. The only other player to reach double figures for BBA was Jahamal Graham, who finished with 12 points. Other results: Over 45 Sweaters Veterans outpace East West Veterans In the initial match of the doubleheader, Sweaters Veterans secured a decisive 68-55 triumph over their East West counterparts in the Over 45 Division. With this victory, Sweaters improved their record to 3-1, while East West's record fell to 2-2. The Sweaters asserted their dominance from the outset, establishing an 18-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. However, in the second period, led by Dexter Martin, who delivered a game-high 30 points, East West mounted a formidable comeback, leveling the score at 31-31. With both teams vying for an enhancement in their league standings, Sweaters, spearheaded by their top scorer Kofe Campbell with 23 points, distanced themselves, concluding the third quarter with a 50-42 advantage and sustaining their momentum in the final period to clinch the victory. For the winning side, Dexter Bridgewater contributed 17 points, while Edwardo Bernard added 13 points for East West in their valiant effort. July 17: First Division TT Defense Force lock down Spartans TT The Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force (TTDF) secured a resounding 80-61 triumph over Spartans TT in the second match of a doubleheader in the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Commission Basketball League, First Division, at the Woodbrook Youth Center on July 17. Demonstrating a cohesive team effort, the Army contingent was spearheaded by forward Kerry McMillan, who delivered a game-high 17 points. The TTDF maintained control throughout the contest, never once relinquishing their lead. They concluded the first quarter with a 21-13 advantage, extended it to 46-29 by halftime, and further widened the gap to 67-40 by the end of the third quarter. In the final period, Spartans mounted their most significant challenge, spearheaded by Idris Martin, who netted 7 of his total 16 points, enabling them to outscore the TTDF 21-13. Nevertheless, the damage inflicted by the Army squad earlier in the game proved insurmountable for the Spartans. McMillan received commendable support from Jahiem Job, who contributed 16 points, while Kensley Sandy and Kievan Bacquain each added 14 points. For the Spartans, Thieron Martin recorded 12 points, and Shornell Pompey chipped in with 10 points. With this victory, the TT Defense Force improved their record to 5-3, while Spartans TT slipped to 4-4. Over 45 Division TTDF Veterans hammered Shak Attack Vets In the supporting game, TT Defense Force Veterans team smashed Shak Attack Veterans 74-54 in an Over 45 Division contest. Similar to their younger First Division battalion in the earlier game, the Army Vets controlled the entire proceedings leading throughout 21-14, 44-27 and 59-42 before marching on to the victory. Former national standout player, Steven ‘Lighter’ Lewis was again unstoppable for the winners with a game high 23pts that included three 3-pointers while Nate Toney chipped in with four 3-pointers in his 19pts. With the win, TTDF led the Veterans Standings with a 4-0 records and Shak Attack Vets fell to 1-2. July 15: First Division Morvant Oilbirds soar past Royalty Morvant Oilbirds prevailed decisively with a 68-56 victory over Royalty in the marquee matchup of the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Commission Basketball League, First Division, at the Woodbrook Youth Center on July 15. With this victory, the Oilbirds improved their record to 3-3, while Royalty endured their second consecutive defeat, dropping to 3-4. In a pivotal contest for both teams, Oilbirds’ forward Obel Guerra notched twelve points in the opening period, yet Royalty maintained a tenuous 17-16 lead in a closely contested first quarter. As the competition progressed, both teams exchanged leads, culminating in a deadlock at 32-32 by halftime. With neither side able to establish dominance, Royalty seized the momentum to forge ahead 44-41 in the third quarter, courtesy of a free throw by their leading scorer, Karrem Prince, followed by a two-pointer from Khushaiah King. Antonio Ambris countered with a two-pointer, succeeded by Rashwan Hope and another shot from Ambris, propelling the Oilbirds on a 6-0 run for their largest lead of the game at 47-44. Subsequently, the Oilbirds intensified their performance as Obel Guerra converted a free throw and secured an additional two points, while Kelon Joseph concluded the period with the final four points, thereby extending their advantage to 54-44 by the end of the quarter. Unfortunately, Royalty found themselves unable to score following their earlier rally. In the final session, the Oilbirds steadfastly maintained their control over the game, as Royalty struggled to regain their prior momentum. For the Oilbirds, Obel Guerra emerged as the game’s highest scorer with 23 points, while Antonio Ambris contributed 13 points and Kevon Williams added 11 points. Karrem Prince led Royalty with 15 points. Defense Force dominates Togetherness In the inaugural match of the First Division doubleheader, Defense Force secured a resounding 70-39 victory over Togetherness. Led by their seasoned player Kerry McMillian, who notched a game-high 23 points—including three from beyond the arc—alongside Jahiem Job, who contributed 14 points with two three-pointers, the Army team demonstrated their superiority throughout the contest, establishing leads of 20-10, 33-18, and 53-28 before gliding to triumph. Tyler Hyndman emerged as the standout performer for Togetherness, concluding the match with 15 points. With this win, Defense Force enhanced their record to 4-3, while Togetherness languished at 1-5. |
