POSTED BY: Albert-Lee Young
This July and August, basketball courts across South Trinidad will come alive with energy, excitement, and purpose as the Court to Court Caravan rolls into action. Presented by Advanced Genetics Sports & Cultural Club, in collaboration with the Caribbean Basketball Association (CBA) and a host of local clubs and academies, the Caravan is a dynamic youth basketball outreach’s initiative designed to inspire, uplift, and develop the region’s next generation of athletes.
From Saturday, July 12th to Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, the Court to Court Caravan will traverse eight locations throughout San Fernando and its southern communities, offering complimentary basketball clinics, mentorship sessions, and engaging activities for youth aged 8 to 18. This initiative is the brainchild of Adrian Joseph, a former national 3x3 player, NCAA Division I athlete, and international professional sportsman, who has now transitioned into a mentor and youth advocate. “Basketball transformed my life. Now I aspire to utilize it as a catalyst for change in the lives of others,” stated Joseph, who serves as the Founder and Director of Advanced Genetics Sports & Cultural Club. “This Caravan transcends mere skill development—it embodies character building, community engagement, and the creation of opportunities for our youth.” A Vision for Youth Empowerment Through Sport The Court to Court Caravan is anchored in a vision to harness basketball as a conduit for positive youth development, early talent identification, and community cohesion. Through structured coaching sessions, motivational discourses, and enjoyable competitions, the program strives to cultivate personal growth, discipline, teamwork, and self-assurance among young participants. Key Objectives Include: - Engaging youth in structured, skill-enhancing basketball activities - Providing mentorship and early exposure to organized sports - Fortifying connections with educational institutions, local clubs, and community leaders - Cultivating inclusive environments that promote holistic development - Identifying and nurturing burgeoning talent for future opportunities 2025 Caravan Schedule Date: Location July 12: La Romaine Basketball Court July 14– 15: Ste. A Call for Community Support The organizers are actively seeking community partnerships to enhance the program’s reach and efficacy. Local clubs, educational institutions, regional corporations, businesses, and volunteers are encouraged to participate by providing support in the following areas: - Equipment and venue accessibility - Transportation and logistical assistance - Refreshments and giveaways - Promotional support and outreach - Coaching or administrative aid “We believe in collective impact,” asserts Joseph. “With the community’s backing, we can guarantee that every child who aspires to play is afforded a place, a ball, and an opportunity for growth.” The Court to Court Caravan is more than a summer basketball program—it represents a movement for youth empowerment. By investing in our young people, nurturing talent, and building bridges through sport, this initiative is laying the groundwork for stronger, healthier, and more interconnected communities. According to Joseph, one of his former U.S. coaches, Dwayne Mitchell, head coach of the New York Gauchos in the Bronx, will conduct on-court sessions and evaluate players for potential opportunities on the final day. In addition to Coach Mitchell, several U.S.-based coaches will virtually observe the camp, providing further assessment of the participants. Following the conclusion of the camp, exhibition games will be held at each location, offering the children a platform to showcase their talents in a competitive atmosphere while simultaneously thrilling the fans and the community.
