The Maloney Pacers sustained their remarkable unbeaten streak in the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Commission Basketball League First Division, held at the Woodbrook Youth Center on July 24. In a clash between two eastern-based teams, Pacers decisively triumphed over Coach KG Elite with a score of 88-63, elevating their record to an impressive 8-0 to lead the standings. Conversely, Elite's record fell to 4-3.

From the initial tip-off, Pacers swiftly established dominance, propelled by Shakiel Bernard, who netted 9 points in the opening quarter, steering his team to a 24-14 lead. The second quarter witnessed the Pacers’ continued superiority as they outscored Elite 26-12, thereby extending their advantage to 50-26 by halftime. Upon resumption, while Elite exhibited a more competitive performance, Pacers, led by national 3x3 player Akeel Boyd—who contributed 12 points in the period—maintained a commanding lead of 73-42 and ultimately secured victory in the final quarter.

For Pacers, Akeel Boyd delivered a stellar performance, amassing a game-high 30 points, including three three-pointers. Bertrand contributed 19 points, while Lashan Alfred added 18 points. On the opposing side, Boyd’s twin brother Ahkeem emerged as the top scorer for Elite with 23 points, which also featured three three-pointers, while Jaden Roberts tallied 14 points and Kern George chipped in with 10 points in a valiant effort.

In the individual player spotlight, discussions of the Boyd brothers' rivalry add a narrative arc that enhances the league's appeal.

Meanwhile the victory solidified the Pacers as a formidable contender in the league, with their confidence surging as they approach the Big 4 Playoffs. As for Coach KG Elite, they will be striving to reclaim their competitive advantage in their upcoming match.

Shak Attack Vets edge out NFM Vets


In a thrilling opening match, Shak Attack Veterans secured a hard-fought and narrow 56-53 triumph over National Flour Mills (NFM) Veterans. With this victory, Shak Attack elevated their record to 2-2, while NFM finds themselves languishing at 0-2.

In a fiercely contested encounter, the lead oscillated several times, with Shak Attack asserting dominance in the first half, leading 16-12 and 32-28. During the third quarter, NFM led by Cazambe Gilbert mounted a determined comeback, narrowing the gap to just two points at 36-38. However, in the final period, with NFM ahead 53-52, Karim Mohammed netted two crucial points, followed by a free throw from Reynold Hospedales, and then another free throw from Mohammed, ultimately clinching the victory for Shak Attack in the closing moments of the game.

For the victorious side, Joseph Cox delivered a standout performance, finishing with a game-high 15 points, while Reynold Hospedales contributed 10 points. Meanwhile, Gilbert led the charge for NFM with 14 points, closely followed by Gershin Duncan, who also added 14 points.
