Royalty basketball team secured a hard-fought yet decisive victory against Coach KG Elite as the action unfolded in three matches of the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Basketball League on July 27. For Royalty, it was a hallmark 80-82 triumph, while the consecutive defeat for Elite undermines their aspirations for the Big Four Playoffs.

Kareem Prince, who led all scorers with an impressive 27 points, initiated the proceedings with a three-pointer that set the stage for both his and Royalty's early aspirations, as they confounded Elite in the opening quarter with a formidable 34-17 advantage. They sustained their dominance throughout the first half, boasting a substantial 52-31 advantage. Facing a must-win scenario, Elite managed to outscore their rivals 23-15; however, Royalty stood resilient, preserving a 67-54 lead. As they entered the final period, Elite, spearheaded by Kern George with 26 points, mounted a significant rally, equalizing the score at 70-70 courtesy of a two-pointer from Stephen Edwards. With the momentum slightly shifting, Elite surged ahead 74-72 following George's successful free throws. In the subsequent possession, Christian Gellineau responded with a three-pointer for Royalty, bringing the score to 75-74. As the clock wound down, Royalty maintained the upper hand when Khushaiah King was fouled, converting both game-winning free throws and igniting jubilation among their supporters.

For Royalty, Prince, who also achieved a career-high with seven three-pointers in his tally, received commendable support from Gellineau, who contributed 18 points, while Jason Best added 15 points, and Juinzhino Springer chipped in with 10 points. Conversely, George was ably assisted by Ahkeem Boyd with 14 points, and Jervais Caraccillo, who scored 10 points, resulting in a disappointing match for Elite.

As the league progresses, the implications of this victory resonate with deeper significance for the Royalty squad. In contrast, Elite’s recent losses cast shadows over their playoff hopes.
