Straker Nets wipe out Royalty

Straker Nets achieved a resounding 91-39 triumph over Royalty in the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Basketball League, First Division, on July 29. Following a signature victory in their prior contest, Royalty found themselves thoroughly outmatched against the second-ranked Nets. With this victory, the Nets effectively secured their playoff berth with a 6-2 record, while Royalty fell to 4-5.

In the marquee matchup of the evening, the Nets, spearheaded by Sadiki Guerra, who notched a game-high 28 points—including five three-pointers—established an early dominance with a commanding 25-8 lead in the opening quarter. Subsequently, the Nets maintained their superiority, leading throughout with scores of 51-21, 72-34, and concluded with a 19-5 surge in the final period to seal the win.

For the victors, Guerra received commendable support from Chike Augustine, who contributed 15 points, while Triston Benjamin and Gari Barklay each added 12 points. Jason Best was the standout performer for Royalty, finishing with 11 points in a losing effort.

Prison Vets edge Sweaters Vets

In a closely contested match, the Prison Veterans secured a narrow 57-56 victory against Sweaters Veterans in the Over 45 Division. This triumph marked Prison's inaugural win of the season, elevating their record to 1-3, while the Sweaters fell to 2-2.

Guided by Steve Mc Sween, who achieved a game-high 23 points, Prison Vets orchestrated a remarkable comeback from an 11-22 deficit in the first quarter, ultimately trailing by a single point at halftime, 34-33. During the third period, both teams exchanged baskets in a thrilling display, resulting in a 48-48 stalemate heading into the final quarter. As the veteran players battled fiercely for supremacy, the outcome hinged on two crucial free throws executed by Mc Sween.

In support of Prison, Maxime Pereira contributed 11 points. For the Sweaters, Keston Reid led the charge with 17 points, while Anton Pierre added 13 points in a heart-wrenching defeat.
