Morvant Oilbirds secure playoff spot

Morvant Oilbirds clinched their position in the Big 4 with a resounding 101-57 triumph over the Trailblazers as the First Division of the Kelvin Roberts North Zone Basketball Commission League approaches its conclusion. With this victory, the Oilbirds elevated their record to 6-3, ultimately securing a fourth-place finish despite a default loss to Coach KG Elite. The other contenders include the top-placed Maloney Pacers (9-0), Trinidad & Tobago Defense Force (6-3), and Straker Nets (6-2), with one remaining game against Elite (4-4).

In a do-or-die scenario, the Oilbirds applied relentless pressure on their adversaries, commencing their offensive onslaught with an opening basket from small forward Johanthon Thomas and subsequently orchestrating a commanding 31-10 quarter. The Morvant-based squad maintained their momentum, leading 59-17 at halftime and extending their advantage to a staggering 81-27 by the conclusion of the third quarter. Despite the challenges, the Trailblazers had their moments, spearheaded by Che Miller, who recorded a game-high 27 points, as they outscored the Oilbirds 26-20 in the final quarter. Miller persistently attacked the Oilbirds’ defense, contributing 12 points in that session. With the result, Trailblazers remained in tenth spot with a 0-9 record.

For the Oilbirds, an overall offensive display was spearheaded by Antonio Ambris with 22 points, followed by Obel Guerra with 21 points, Kevon Williams with 18 points including five triple tries, Rashawn Hope with 15 points, Thomas added 11 points and Jose Mays chipped in with 10pts. Breon Sealey provided a valiant effort for the beleaguered Trailblazers, contributing 19 points.

With their Big 4 spot solidified, Morvant Oilbirds are focused on solidifying their standing among the elite teams in the league. Meanwhile, the competition remains fierce for the playoff spots. The Maloney Pacers continue their unbeaten streak, the Trinidad & Tobago Defense Force are also poised to make a significant playoff run, while Straker Nets are one of the favourites for the title.

The atmosphere promises to be electric, as teams will be vying for not just victory in the playoffs, but an edge for the finals. With excitement building, fans are left to wonder: can Oilbirds having upset Defense Force and Nets in the regular season soar to new heights and navigate their path through the postseason successfully? Only time will tell.

Maloney Pacers assured of top spot


In the second game of the First Division double header, Maloney Pacers remained unbeaten with a dominant 84-50 win over Togetherness basketball team. With the win Pacers remain on top of the standings and enhanced their record to 9-0. While, Togetherness fell to ninth spot with a 1-7 record.

As anticipated, Pacers controlled the tempo from the tip-off and led throughout the contest 22-11, 48-29 and 65-37 heading into the final period sustaining their superiority over their opponents.

For Pacers, Akheel Boyd topscored with 22pts, Luke Mobhear added 17pts while Lashawn Alfred and Joel Lewis contributed 15pts apiece. Timothy Belgrave led Togetherness with 22pts and Tyler Hyndman tallied 15pts.
