The HAB Caicos Sonics have accepted the 2019 invite to return to the Copa Mitchell Cup (Santiago, Dominican Republic). The Turks & Caicos Island club have agreed to sign import players C.J. Foster (193-G-95, college: Arkansas St.) and P.J. Reason (193-F, college: Co.Georgia). The Sonics have been very active this offseason winning the 2018 Bambarra Invitational.
Last year the HAB Caicos Sonics finished in 6th place in their first international campaign in ten years. It was a great learning experience as the club proved they could compete on a high level with American and Dominican teams.
"We are ready for 2019", said Ciaran O'Neil . Experience is the best teach. We have competed in several international events since last spring. So this January look for the Sonics to make a statement.
The Sonics have announced the call up of Ciaran O'Neil as the new head coach. He will be replacing American coach Travis McAvene for the 2019 season. "I am blessed and honored to be able to coach the club this year", said coach O'Neil. It was my first goal to return to this club and prove that Turks and Caicos belongs.
National Team player Carlon Bassett (201-C/F) will return to lead the Sonics. Last year he averaged a team best 8.0 rebounds per game along with 12 points. He was awarded LatinBasket.com All-Mitchell Cup HM in 2018.
