RIVERDALE - New Faith Christian Academy improved to 7-3 on the season with two wins last week.

The Titans beat Covenant Christian Ministries Academy last Tuesday by a score of 73-68. Collins Joseph led the way with 36 points, while Zack Morgan added 10 points and 15 rebounds.

On Friday, New Faith beat Central Park Christian Academy out of Alabama. In that game, Joseph exploded for 50 points to lead the Titans. The talented senior is averaging well over 30 points per game this season.

New Faith plays Knoxville Baptist Christian this week as they return to action.

Okeechobee 3

Okeechobee 78, Lincoln Park Academy 53: V.I. Boys with double-doubles propel the Brahmans rolled to their third consecutive win.

Jamal Davis had a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds while Jquan Ferrol also had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for Okeechobee (3-0).

Okeechobee plays Wednesday against Glades Day.

The list of teams with unblemished records is still lengthy just two weeks into the season. Several were expected and others have surprised. But one of the surprises with potential staying power is St. Laurence.

With the return of several players with varsity experience and a revamped Catholic League that has helped level the playing field with two new divisions, first-year coach Jim Sexton has a chance to build off his team's fast start to the season.

St. Laurence, which finished 13-16 a year ago, has jumped out to a 5-0 start, including a big weekend win over previously unbeaten St. Joseph.

Senior Isaiah Harvey has been a revelation. The 5-9 guard is leading the team in scoring with 16 points a game, along with five assists, and poured in 34 points in the stunner over St. Joseph, including the game-winning three-pointer in the closing seconds.

In the newly-formed Chicago Catholic League, St. Laurence has emerged as one of the favorites in the Catholic League White. With continued progress and a feeble Class 3A field overall, the opportunity is there for the program's first regional championship in 15 years.

How strong is this St. Laurence team? The Vikings, fresh off that win over St. Joseph, have a another measuring stick this Friday night with a road game at DePaul Prep.
Windermere Prep (2-1) rolled to a 66-50 victoryover Village Charters behind 22 points from Shaquan Jules. The Buffalo (2-1) trailed only 19-17 when star Tre Mann hobbled off the court. His teammates took a short-lived 24-21 lead but momentum turned quickly after the 6-7 Jules hammered down his third dunk of the first half. That sparked a 13-0 Lakers run that pushed them to a 40-28 halftime lead.
Talin Lewis had 14 to lead Oaks Christian to an 82-59 over Sylmar in the Warrior Classic Tournament at Heritage Christian.

Highland boys basketball 62, Eastern Mennonite 55

For the second consecutive season, the Highland Hawks won the Eastern Mennonite Tip-Off boys basketball tournament in Harrisonburg.

They defeated Eastern Mennonite during the championship game Saturday, 62-55, after beating Life Christian, 62-56, Friday. Mekhi Hendricks made the all-tournament team while helping Highland improve its record to 3-0.

Hendricks scored 28 points against Eastern Mennonite, helping the Hawks build a 20-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and then hold off a Flames rally.

"Eastern Mennonite is a really tough place to play for a multitude of reasons,' Hawks coach Brian Hooker said. 'I was proud of the way we kept our composure, stayed together and finished out the basketball game.'

Hendricks had 20 points Friday and Justice had 13.

Highland fell behind Life Christian, 30-18, by halftime, but narrowed that deficit to 43-36 entering the fourth quarter and finished the game on a 26-13 run.

"A good early-season test against an extremely talented and athletic team," Hooker said. "We certainly were not happy with our first half effort.

'Our second half effort was much better,' he said, 'and maybe we proved to ourselves that we are capable of competing with some of the most elite talent in the state."
