CHAMPAIGN (WCIA) -- Khailieo Terry is known as a dunker. It's not something the Central sophomore is against, in large part because it's true, but the high flyer is working to make sure his game is more than just being an athlete.

"I've gotten better," Terry said about his improvement from freshman year to now. "I've developed my handles, they've gotten better. I'm developing a jump shot now. I'm still athletic."

Terry is averaging 15.9 points per game this season, as the only returning starter for the Maroons from last year's regional title team. Central has actually won three straight regionals in now head coach Jeff Finke's third year with the program.

"His skillset is definitely improving," Finke said about Terry. "Obviously everyone saw him as an athlete last year, great finisher at the rim. He's definitely grown and expanded on both ends. I mean he's learning the game, he hasn't played the game that many years so just the IQ piece. When to pass, when to attack, when to shoot."

Central is back in action Saturday visiting Kankakee.

He will again compete in the Rising Stars Challenge and debut in the Slam Dunk Contest this weekend in Charlotte. The Riddle, Wrapped Inside a Mystery that is Royce O'Neale - 1 day ago
By Adam Bushman Royce O'Neale(198-SF-93, college: Baylor)< paid many dues throughout his journey to the NBA. Splitting his collegiate eligibility between the University of Denver and the University of Baylor, O'Neale did his best to prepare for the NBA draft. He would spend the 2015 draft night waiting for his name to be called, only to end the night disappointed with his name uncalled. Spending the next two years in Europe playing professionally, he worked to hone the skills necessary...   [read more]
