Nike consultant Terry Layton passed away last year after a fierce battle with cancer. Terry was remembered last night during the Nike Hoop Summit shown on ESPN2. He engulfed his life in international basketball and NIKE placed his initials on the World jersey.
Layton was the Athletic Director at the University of the Virgin Islands (99-00) and was a supporter of the Virgin Islands junior men's national team.

Looking back on his first semester as athletic director of the University of the Virgin Islands, Terry Layton says he's pleased that the men's volleyball team made the playoffs and a UVI weightlifter broke a record in the Organizacion Deportiva Interuniversitaria -or Inter-university Sports Organization -ODI, the predominantly Puerto Rican college athletic conference in which UVI competes.

Layton came to the athletic director's job with experience as a college and professional coach with an extensive background in the Caribbean. He was the head basketball coach at Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., when the team made it to the playoffs. His coaching record stands at 254 wins and 44 losses. He also coached at Northwest Nazarene from 1975-82. In his seven seasons at Northwest Nazarene, the team advanced to five consecutive NAIA District II playoff appearances from 1978-82. He was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2009. He has coached professional basketball teams throughout the Caribbean and in Taiwan and has conducted Olympic coaching clinics in the Caribbean, South and Central America, and the Middle East.

Most recently he was the Global Scout/Consultant for NIKE Basketball.

A memorial scholarship has been set up in Layton's name

Royce O'Neale with 18 in finale - 3 hours ago
The Utah Jazz didn't go down without a fight, but the result was the same regardless. The Jazz were downed by the Houston Rockets 100-93 to lose the series 4-1, ending Utah's season. Houston completed the gentlemen's sweep and, as was the theme for the Jazz in this series, they will see plenty of missed opportunities to extend their postseason run when they watch the tape on this one. After allowing a 10-0 run to start the second half, Utah faced a 12-point deficit early in the third. Th...   [read more]

John Collins
Eight Things We Learned About Collins' Sophomore Season - 4 hours ago
1) John Collins (208-PF-97, college: Wake Forest) dunked and dunked and dunked. In 61 games played, Collins finished the season tenth in the NBA with 157 dunks. He is, without question, a breathtaking dunker. VIDEO 2) John had an ultra-rare season. For the season, Collins averaged 19.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.0 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from the field. In the history of the NBA, only two players have averaged 19+ points per game and 9+ rebounds pe...   [read more]

Hodge and Homenetmen season comes to an end - 2 days ago
Walter Hodge(183-PG-86, college: Florida) and Homenetmen season came to an end after falling to Beirut, 96-91, Tuesday evening in the Lebanese Basketball League. Beirut won the series three games to one over the defending champions. Beirut trailed for the majority of proceedings in Mezher before producing a 28-point fourth quarter to steal Game 4 and set up a finals meeting with Riyadi. Homenetmen would have done their fair share of soul searching after Game 3's embarrassing blowout loss...   [read more]
