Tyra Aska
For the first time this season and fourth in her career, SWOSU senior guard Tyra Aska (173-G-98) has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday by the league office.
Aska averaged a double-double last week as she led her team to a pair of conference road wins, which runs the Lady Bulldogs win streak to five straight games and moved them into a tie for second place in the league standings. On Thursday at Henderson State, Aska had 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, becoming the sixth player in program history to score 1,500 career points in the process. She topped that mark with a season-best 27 points on Saturday at Ouachita, which moved her past Jackie Snodgrass and into fifth place on the Lady Dawgs' all-time scoring list with 1,530 career points.
For the week, Aska averaged 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game on 50% shooting from the field and three-point range. This season, she ranks second on the team in scoring (11.5 ppg) and assists (77) while ranking third in rebounds (7.0 rpg) and steals (57).
Aska has now been named the GAC Player of the Week once in each of her four seasons at SWOSU and she becomes the second Lady Bulldog this season to earn the award.
