Penarol Pull Away in Game 6 to Win the Liga Uruguaya Title-Jun 23, 2026
Penarol are champions of Uruguay once again, going on the road to beat Aguada 107-92 in Game 6 and close out the Liga Uruguaya de Basquetbol Finals 4-2. In an all-Montevideo decider, the two heavyweights traded the early lead Penarol up 31-21 after the first quarter, Aguada hitting back with a 32-23 second to edge ahead, leaving Penarol clinging to a 54-53 advantage at the break. But the third quarter settled it. Penarol exploded for 32 points while clamping Aguada to 16, turning a one-point game into a commanding 86-69 lead, and they comfortably saw out the win from there to spark the title celebrations. Skyler Hogan (196-G-1997, college: SEMO) led the champions with 28 points on superb shooting (9-of-10 from two), adding four assists. Penarol's balance did the rest: Emiliano Serres (204-F-1997) came off the bench for 15 points on a perfect-from-inside, hot-shooting night, Nicola Pomoli (195-G/F-1999) added 14 with five assists, Santiago Vescovi (191-G-2001, college: Tennessee) posted 13 points and a game-high seven assists, and Jau contributed a 12-point, nine-rebound double-double. For Aguada, Luis Santos (203-C-1994, college: St.Louis) was outstanding in defeat with 25 points on 10-of-12 from the field, Donald Sims (190-SG-1987, college: App State, agency: Pensack Sports) added 18, and Santiago Vidal (180-G-1989) dished a game-high eight assists, but the hosts could not match Penarol's third-quarter surge.
